Dealer updated firmware but still receiving message to update
« on: October 27, 2021, 08:23:18 PM »

Hello,

Just took my newly acquired 2015 Zero SR to the local dealer and had them do a firmware update since the app was bugging me to do so. The dealer told me they had updated it but after I brought it home and tried the app for the first time since the visit, it said an update was available and to please see the dealer... I called and asked about it and the service tech did not know why it would say that. He said the next time I come in, he will update it again (for free, this time).

I did some googling and found the Zero log parser. I emailed the logs to myself and had a look. It's a little hard to read but looks like the BMS is v48 and the MBB is v56 which is the latest for my year according to Zero's site: https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/firmware

Soooo, why is the app telling me an update is available? Should I just ignore it or what's really going on here?

Maybe try clearing the cache or app data and re-connect it to the bike

Not for nothing but... I'm not sure where you're located but here in the States the firmware updates are SUPPOSED to be free.  That was the case with my 2016 S.  Thankfully, my 2018 model allows me to do it myself via smartphone app.

@KillerTofu - I did “forget this device” via Bluetooth and reinstall the app and now it says firmware up to date. huzzah!

@JaimeC - I am in the states and while the firmware update was free, the dealers time/labor was not ;-) their rate is $110/hr and they charged me for 30 minutes.

Hmmmmmmmmm...  I only once brought in my 2016 for a software update ONLY and my dealer didn't charge me anything for it...  The only other time they did the update, it was in for something else and I was charged for that, but not for the update.

It seems to me that the labor to install firmware updates should be paid for by Zero. After all, the firmware updates would seem to be required due to issues resulting from Zero's programming, not anything done by the customer.  ???  I would consider necessary firmware updates to be covered by a type of warranty and Zero should foot the cost of installation.  Does anyone here pay for Windows 10 updates?    ::)
