Best year for the Model S
« on: September 14, 2021, 10:34:30 PM »

It's sure looking like I should've purchased my "S" model in 2019 rather than buying the 2018 model I did in late 2018.  Unfortunately I didn't know what was in store for 2019 and I did get a very good price on my 2018.

If I waited a couple of months I could've ordered a 2019 model with the 14.4kWh battery.  Instead I have a 2018 with the 13kWh battery. For some IDIOTIC, unknown reason after 2019 Zero decided to only sell the S model with the 7.2kWh battery in the United States.  They still sell it with the 14.4kWh battery in Europe, but not here.  And for 2022 the only difference is a color instrument display and new graphics?

Oh well.  No use crying over spilled milk.  My 2018 model has been stone cold reliable; a couple of little glitches early on that were fixed under warranty and problem-free ever since.  Not sure how much more range 1.4kWh would mean but it also means it would've taken a little longer to fully charge too.  No such thing as a free lunch!

No doubt they'll bump the SR/F batteries up to 15.5kwh in 2023 as well and I'll be bemoaning the lack of the kwh in mine too, but I guess if you never actually take the plunge because there's always something better coming next year... you'll never have anything eh?

Tought it would be interesting to compair the specs;

There is no difference in the S 2019 and S 2020;
There is a quite interesting difference in the S 2018 and S 2019.

  • The estimated range is difference; But that is explainable due to the difference in Battery size; 13.0kWh for S2018 and 14.4kWh for S2019.
  • Something I did not expect is the Estimated Power Pack Life; The S2019 only has 66% of Battery Life expectancy of the S2018  ???

Still about a factor 5x longer than 95% of these bikes will ever see...

WOW!  That IS interesting!  So okay, now I am feeling a lot better about my 2018.  I'm the kinda guy who runs his vehicles into the ground before replacing them.  That explains my 22 year old K1200LT with 226,000 miles on it.  I'm on my third Subaru car; the first one I had for 13 years and the second one I had for 17 years.  This bodes well for how long I'll be able to hang on to my "S"!
