Looking to buy Zero FX or Zero MX in/around North Carolina
« on: June 06, 2021, 06:09:57 PM »

Apologies if I’m using this forum incorrectly, I’m new. But anyway I’m looking to buy a working zero mx/fx motorcycle around Charlotte NC but I will travel or ship if circumstances require. Please message me or comment if you have any information regarding where to find one, or if you have one.

Welcome aboard.  Mind if I ask why?
I don't know if you are aware but the 2013 X bikes FX MX XU had the battery-bike interface on the opposite side of all the other years.
So as far as I know Zero can't/won't make any replacement batteries for those bikes.

I was not aware of that but, for me at least, buying a bike that old would almost certainly mean a battery replacement regardless of the condition. I’d likely make a custom battery or find someone to make one. The MX seems like a perfect bike and I’m sad they ended the model.

Alright, I see your new here so if I tell you something you already know please don't take offense.

First, Zero still makes MX bikes but just for the military.  On their website it's called the MMX.  https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/fleet/military/

But other than upgraded suspension and knobby tires there is no big difference from a stock FX model.  The 2013 used Fast Ace forks which were not very good and likely discontinued like the ones for my DS are.

You can get a FX and just add whatever upgrades you'd like or find a used Alta MXR for what is the best off road electric bike made so far.
But Alta is out of business and you'd be on your own.

The only other two off road options are the KTM Freeride and the new Sur Ron Storm BEE.  There are Forum sections about each if you want to learn more or if you have any other questions we'll see if we can help.

How dare you try to provide me with useful information and help me out? I’ve taken more than offense.

But seriously, thank you for the info. I thought it would be easier and cheaper to get an older bike made specifically for dirt but you and others have made me aware that it would be nearly the same regardless of fx, mx, 2015, 2020, etc.

With that, I will try and edit my original post.

HAHAHA

You never know on here.
I've talked to new guys who were software and electrical engineers who pat me on the head and say "that's nice".

There is a member on here called Redclay who runs a off road touring operation in the east coast mountains.
He has set up a few FX bikes for harder off road use.  Very smart guy made some of his own mods.

Look around on here, there are videos and write ups and if you have any other questions just ask.

Here is one of Red's threads.  I see your in NC.  He isn't too far away.  You can click his name and send a PM.

You're not the first person I've seen fall in love with a used MX.  But a newer FX is pretty much straight up better.

What exactly does redclay’s operation consist of? I’d potentially be interested.

Here is one of my posts from another forum.
https://ibb.co/3MzK2TN
In it, I ask about renting to try and get more than a 15min on-road ride with an FX at a dealer; then you send me that touring thing. I guess “ask and you shall receive” but ask in the right places lol. This is hilarious. I will be sure to give him a visit as this is exactly what I’ve been looking for.
