Dogs chasing me
« on: January 24, 2021, 12:01:03 AM »

I seem to be able to get by dogs once, but returning trips they are ready for me. Does the Zero motor put out a tone we cannot hear? I've seen cows turn their heads, horses get spooked. Also, what would be most humane way of protecting myself, I am afraid they will get ran over and wreck me, at which point it is them or me, as there is usually a pack. Yes we have a leash law, but no enforcement.

Do you ever get startled when a bicycle passes you as a pedestrian or when stopped in a car or on your Zero? That happens because you did not expect it. Just like the horse does not expect a Zero to go zipping by them so quietly. I don't know if there is any noises outside the human audible range, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were. In terms of dogs, they do have eyeballs too, and probably just see you. I've never had a problem with farm dogs chasing my as I ride through the country. I'd think that the majority of them that make contact with cars or motorcycles end up losing the battle due to physics.

Dogs just like motorcycles (or dislike them) as far as I can tell.

I live along a highway with lots of motorcycles, so at least the horses I encounter are inured to the sight.  They seem less startled than by me and my bicycle (and my p100 mask I wear while riding it)

A few dogs seem to respond poorly to mask or helmet, but I can't help that.

Lots of people have noticed that electric motors seem to upset animals even more than motors do. Onewheel owners seem to have a particularly high rate of upsetting dogs, probably partially because of how frequently they get close to them compared to other vehicles.

Perhaps the high speed switching of the controller emits a high frequency pitch we cannot hear.
