Alrendo TS Bravo
« on: January 20, 2021, 12:48:30 AM »

Saw English Electric post this on their IG. Similar to the Sondors if Alrendo can hit the price they claim it looks like a really well priced bike. I can't quite believe it but they're saying that for €10k (£8.9k or $12.k) you can get a 58kW (75hp) bike with a 16.6kW/h battery and 3.8kW charging. That's SR beating for less than the cost of a non-R 7.2kW/h model. And to top it all off it will supposedly be rated at just 11kW continuous so will be suitable for the Euro A1 licence, I'm guessing this is why it's limited to 83mph (one area where it loses out to the SR). It is also a little heavier than an SR at 200kg which is still pretty damn good, no doubt due to the larger battery, charger, twin front brakes, and a massive 180mm rear tyre. Also it has a 7 inch colour screen.

If they really can do it for that price and it is A1 compliant I think I might have to take out another loan and get one. If it wasn't for the fact that off roading is so fun I'd even consider selling my DS (which cost only a few hundred pound less, ex-demo) to get one.

They also have a sport bike, the TS Alpha, that's coming soon but no details yet

Those do seem like optimistic claims. Perhaps the bike will be built in China with slave labor.   ;)

Another day, another no-name concept. Not even a video of it moving.

While sure, the specs and pricing sound good compared to Zero, there are so many other challenges to making a motorcycle worth buying.

Are they going to have dealerships?  Support? Parts availability? What's the warranty on the bike? The warranty on the battery?

12k is just a lot of money to risk on a bike from a company with no track record.

Interesting that the motor has a reduction so they could avoid the massive rear sprocket on the rear. I could be wrong but it also looks like the motor is mounted on the swing arm. Seeing as though that's unsprung weight that's a strange choice for a bike with these specs and this price.

I would be curious how and when those test rides happen. If someone's near them and signs up, take video!

Almost guaranteed.

It seems like they're actually close to bringing it to market. Check out their Facebook page (linked at the bottom of their website) and you'll see plenty of photos of the bike parked on roads, with a plate holder, a photo of someone riding it, and even a video of it moving on a dyno. Their Instagram page also has photos of people riding it including some guy sliding it around in some snow.

From their LinkedIn page they're located in China so no doubt it's made there but it sure does look like it's decent quality, cast swingarm, floating rotors, radial mounted brake calipers, a beefy adjustable USD fork with some sort of coating on the stanchions, LEDs all round, the large TFT. While labour might be cheap it doesn't look like they've cheaped out on any of the components. At least from what I can tell from looking at photos.

Building one prototype doesn't make the bike close to market, but their pre-order page says may delivery, and collection from dealership, with no indication as to what the dealerships will be.

We'll see what happens in may.

It's not just one prototype, they have at least two that ride (blue and black, they've also shown photos of a silver one but not of someone riding it). I don't question their ability to actually produce the bike and that's all that stops it from coming to market. Doesn't matter if it will actually end up costing $24k and will only be carried by one dealer in the whole of Europe, it will still be for sale.

Multiple prototypes are still no indication of how close the bike is to market. How many prototypes had Lightning shown off, 7 years ago, and as far as I'm concerned they still don't have a production bike. We've seen a ton of these concept bikes from lots of different companies. Most of them never see the light of day.

But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, even if you put that cynicism aside, and assume they will launch the bike at that price in May:

The question is if it's worth buying, and if it'll end up having the real world performance and manufacturer/dealer support to be worth both the asking price and the risk of going with an unknown manufacturer from china. A couple of promo pics of people riding the bike is not enough to be confident of this to me, but YMMV.

Comparing them with Lightning is hardly fair, an American manufacturer to a Chinese one. If there's one thing the Chinese are good at it's getting stuff done and getting it done fast. They are also capable of producing high quality stuff (including a lot of stuff for non-Chinese brands) but the issue will be price. The question is whether Chinese manufacturing is cheap enough to save that €8k or so compared to an SR that is made in America, or what other factors there could be that would add to the cost of the SR (such as the wide dealer support as you say).

You're right, lightning was an unfair example. But again, my major concern is that they are a totally unproven company with no known support network.  There's not even mention of a warranty on their site. A few limited pieces of marketing from a company that has never produced a product is simply not enough to instill confidence, no matter what their country of origin is.

So I while I get seeing it as an €8K savings, I see it as a €10k risk until I have a lot more information.

But hey, it's your money. If you do end up getting one or even test riding, I hope you post a lot of video and info about it.

Yeah I totally see how it could be a massive risk, my hope is that with them specifically targeting the European market they're going to try and get some decent and widespread dealer support. They could have just gone the easy route and shipped them straight from China like most other Chinese manufacturers, it really looks like they're putting a lot of effort into the whole thing.

Another day, another no-name concept.
It literally has a name.  And they're hoping for dealers to sign up.

That's a step beyond Lightning recently.

Getting closer to competitive. Still a "no" from me without DCFC and another 50% battery capacity.

Cas :)

I meant no-name as in, it's not a name or brand that has any history or recognition.

If they have a history or recognition, they have no reason to make electric bikes.  They're lower profit.
