With absolutely no luggage space on the SS9(+), where do you guys put your first aid kit (if mandatory in your country)? I guess I'll be backpack riding until I find a tank- or tail bag.

Hate to say the obvious - tank bag as you already mentioned is your best option.  Energica's variant likely the best also because it conforms to tank and uses a hold-down fastener under seat which will keep it stationary - rubbing is a genuine concern and mitigated by the hold-down. 

Do remove and blow off dust w/ compressed air then furniture wax paintwork underneath TB once every month or two depending on season - leave it on full-time as it becomes an essential part of the moto transport experience less the blinky-blinky recharge element - over time you will recognize the value.

I cannot think of a single negative to a tank bag, can you?

The OEM side cases seem like they would be ideal for carrying a first aid kit. In addition to the OEM side cases on both of my bikes, I also have 20L & 30L Kriega Dry packs that I use on my Esse Esse 9 as needed. They strap easily to the passenger portion of the Esse Esse 9 seat. They don't really sit well on the passenger portion of the Ribelle seat so I doubt I'll ever use them with that bike.

@PWM: I'm going to look into aftermarket tankbags first as the Energica one looks massive on the configurator page. If I can't find a suitable one I'll go ahead and buy the official. On my other motorcycle I also use a tankbag for a long time now and I also got rid of the top case that the previous owner has mounted.

@BigPoppa: I didn't like the look of the side case holders when the cases were off, but I'll have a look if I can get something similar to a Kriega in the EU, looks like this will be useful when riding alone.

I was also reading a review of the SW-Motech Jet Tail bag (https://www.cyclevolta.com/story/no-pedals/sw-motech-tail-bag-review/). I think you could strap it to the passenger peg brackets and the small rail on the Esse Esse 9 if you don't have the side case mounting rack. It looks like a nice alternative to the Kriega gear although probably not as water resistant. It does look like it's easier to get in and out of though.
