Yes, the unofficial manual shows how to do it, but you do wind up taking responsibility for the waterproofing into your own hands as a result.
Honestly I think making the unit last longer is a good idea, and then you can anticipate ordering one later for full replacement when it fails. Swapping the unit because of the cel battery is not resilient design and not environmentally friendly.

I think if you're out of warranty, you can perform this if you take care to clean the gasket and apply some waterproofing grease to the edges on both faces of the enclosure as you reseal it.
