Ridden hard ,put away wet
« on: April 17, 2020, 03:33:18 AM »

Hi all, Just a quick comment. I've got a 2018 DSR with low miles. I love it. I just so happened to see what looked like a 2016 DSR with all the saddle bags and fairing and top box out here in the desert. It looked like a real commuter machine. I can't understand taking a beautiful machine and covering it up with storage boxes. Just my opinion.

Yeah, Zero's SDS platform isn't made for the loaded up look, but:
- Some people want to carry things.
- That rider can likely fast-charge and travel 300 miles per day, which means they can travel, which requires some clothes and other gear.

I always say "do you want to ride it or look at it?". And if you prefer to look at it, well, you probably cannot see it very well while riding anyway.

I find I often have a reason to carry stuff which is more important than looks to me.

The top box is a must-have for all motorcycles I have owned. I don't want to carry my helmet with me while shopping or going to the cinema or the office. And I think it looks cool if you choose the right top box for your bike. An Example of mine with and without (it is removable), what do you think?

Depends on the motorcycle.  A top box on something like the FXS wouldn't look right (not that you could attach one anyway), but a helmet lock on the frame would work fine.  Sure, you don't want your $500 helmet on display in a mall parking lot, but any passerby would assume it's in that box anyway.

The uglier a motorcycle is the better IMO. See also: Kwak GT550, BMW R1150GS, Haybusa. Function over form every time for me! The more functional it looks, the more pleasing it is to my eye.

Ehh, who would want a smelly helmet anyhow?  I always just use a bike lock to attach mine to the tank.

hat do you think?
I think it would look better if you added  a couple of side cases and perhaps even a tank bag. ;D
