Post by: eyeinsky on July 03, 2013, 05:19:00 AM
Zero XU 12 volt load power reduction modification starts with the easiest mod. replace the tail, brake and signal lights with LED bulbs. You also must replace the flasher with LED compatible unit.

Second; add a switch to the ground wire on the 55 watt halogen had lamp bulb. Essentially eliminate light operation for day time usage.

This have been discussed already ;)

The power difference represent about 3% max.

The converter of the zero is a 30A at 12V = 360W at full load on the output and about 400W draw on the battery.

and is used at about 25% wich represent 100watts of power.

during a 2h ride it'S 200Wh energy. All the light represent about 80% of the power draw wich is about 160Wh energy for a 2h ride.

replacing with LED all; the light wich would reduce by 75% the consumption is about 120Wh  saved wich represent about 3.3% on a 3.9kWh battery and 6% on a 2kWh

in the best conditions :)

The next option to fully reach the max range out of the main bike battery is to install a small 3s battery to power all 12 volt remaining loads. Essentially removing the load that now goes to the DC to DC converter.

Remove this box DC to DC converter.

replace with this 3S 4000mah battery pack and low voltage alarm.
