Title: Tuning the Zero S / DS sprockets or electronic controller for faster start
Post by: manlytom on January 27, 2011, 05:10:07 AM
Hi

During a recent ride of the stock 2010 Zero S I found that the acceleration at the start could be a bit better. Then close to full speed on the flat it got a second boost and sped up to full speed. As I commute a lot the start is most fun to have that fast. With the electric motor one would have full torque right at the start, obviously to preserve chain, sprockets, motor and battery it has been regulated down.
I am considering to tune this either with a different sprocket or the electronics. Regulating it down with say a 10% lower top end speed while trying to maintain range would be my aim.
What have you guys done / any experience ? How easy is it to tune the electronics ??

cheers

Tom,

When I talked to Scot at Zero over the phone in a marketing interview/survey, he said that Zero will have different sprocket sizes available for exactly what you are after...quicker acceleration but a little off the top end while not effecting range all that much.

Hi Adam

that's one way to try it with different sprockets. A bit "manual" I guess. I am hopeful that some tuning on the electronics is possible to tweak things.

Let's see. My bike has now been ordered - I will get it stock and then further research if I can run the Alltrax controller software on it to tweak.
