Sorry for lurking you into this topic… ;)
It’s actually a question: Does anyone have ANY hint about how to activate an Engineering Screen on the Experia - and if such info page is implemented at all?
-
The Engineering screen for the previous gen bikes was abandoned/unsupported before the 21.5kWh packs came out. An entirely new UI for an entirely new platform was written for the Experia.
Are you saying you suspect they ported the abandoned/unsupported engineering screens to an entirely different platform?
-
I suspect the engineers have implemented a screen to view relevant BMS and battery data without connecting a laptop.
Why do I suspect this? I am working for a large automotive system supplier developing brake and suspension systems, so I do have some background. Usually, new generations are developed by carrying over chunks of the old code. In many cases you do not start from scratch.
Therefore that old code that might be still available also at the Experia. Not necessarily, but maybe. If that readout code is there it is a simple task to display it, even given the fact that there’s a new UI and new platform of battery. Yes I know there are a lot of IFs and assumptions, but as long as there is a chance I guess it is fair to ask if anyone knows more… ::)

You can try the Hans Capelle app. Not sure if it works on the Energica.
Hope to test it out today on my Rebelle, using a BT OBDII dongle.

For posterity purposes, sure !! why not? After all since I only have 640k of useable memory, might as well make sure I use every last byte of it right?

What all can you see/do with the app?

The hans Capelle app? Battery temp, cell voltage differences, etc. And you can view it while charging and riding. Monitor your battery charging from a distance. Download it and you will see what it is supposed to track. I am having no luck with it so far on my Rebelle. I think the OBDII BT dongle I have is the culprit. Will order another.
-
I also have a Ribelle, tried a while ago and gave up. I have several OBII BT and even a wired one. I think maybe the OBIILinkMX might work.

Hear that. I think I will throw in a towel as well. Did not realize it would take experimenting with several OBD2 dongles to find one that works with the app.

Guys I do have the „Energ1ca“ App from Hans (the iOS version). Btw, before the Experia I owned a Ribelle and I used a Samsung S7 phone . If I’m not mistaken, Android 8 or 9 was the lates one supported on the S7. Later Android versions do not work or are picky when it comes to get adapters to work. I can confirm that this one (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0755N61PW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) works with the S7 and Ribelle as well as Experia.
Also, there‘s a developer in Germany working on a method to get the Experia online - however naturally the description is all German (https://www.elektroroller-forum.de/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=38115&sid=7ec2a129adcf2d828b847c486879ab17). His code is based on the Hans app. He is working to transmit bike values (speed, ambientTemp, ODO, SOC, SOH, low battery temp, high battery temp, voltage, current, charge state) and GPS data coming from a connected GPS module (time stamp, latitude, longitude, altitude, gps speed).
The good thing: His setup uses a local raspi that connects to a BLE OBD dongle and sends the transmitted data via a GRPS HAT to a webspace. From there, it can be viewed using a web browser - so basically from everywhere.
However, I was interested in a potential built-in solution.
-
I gave my word to not disclose how to enter. But it actually exists!
Ask your dealer...
-
Great find!
You need to rub the bike .... juuust right...
-
@most Congratulations on this find! I'm just wondering about some of the terminology. Why B instead of V for the - obvious - minimum and maximum cell voltage values? And the mixture of font sizes does not contribute positively to the overall impression of quality.
-
Well, I guess it’s kind of unfair to rate the quality of what’s supposed to be hidden from the public. It is as complaining about the odd colors used in Energica’s PC diagnostic software, right?
As for the values, I like most particularly the res.energy (Wh) as this appears to be the available battery charge left. I am wondering if this number, looked at 100%SOC, will provide an indication of SOH.
After recharging, my 15.000km old Experia shows 20278Wh - not bad considering that the net capacity is rated as 19600Wh „nominal“.
As for B min and B max - look a few numbers above. B is for battery.
-
"B" is a historically common identifier for Battery voltage.
-
From a reliable source I got the following information on accessing the engineering screen, aka debug screen, on the Experia:
menu
diagnostic
left, left, left
right, right, right
left
right
left
right
A bit slimmed down from the Ribelle/SS9 version but the origin is very obvious ;).
Couldn't test it myself as I don't own or have access to an Experia. Given that the screen is read only, I don't expect any potential harm from its use - aside from looking at it too closely while driving ;) (yes that is possible). Have fun, but of course, as always in such cases: Use at your own risk.
-
there is a LOT of info on that screen, in very small font. I don't see any way you could realistically read it while driving. Just the motion alone on the road you would be very challenged to keep focused. We won't even get into the extreme safety hazard this would be. Having a camera set up now might be a great idea, you can see things happen in real time ... when you get back home and watch the movie :) . Downloading the logs though is a better way to do that though, anyways, kind of wish some of the stuff they'd make .. say a 4th screen and put some of that info on all the bikes. Things like, pack voltage, KW in and out that is resettable, temperatures of motor, inverter, batteries, water.. although being water cooled, those temps rarely really get very high.

I was so ready to call you a liar as the other "Konami Code" didn't work with my Experia, but this one works.
By golly, it's real. No idea if the info listed on the engineering screen is correct, but it is, in fact, there on the Experia.

Yes it is indeed accessible on the Experias, has been since they were released...I have known this since getting my Experia in Feb of '23.... but was "sworn to secrecy" by my dealer under threat of a public stoning. ;)

Why would they want something useful to be a secret? What is the harm of the owner knowing about it?

I agree with you, I see no harm in having it, you can hurt anything from the diagnostic menu, it's just information...As I understand it....it's for Energica workshop diagnostic use.

I have no idea what the numbers mean or what they tell me about the bike, other than knowing the high and low voltage variance of the cells. My understanding is that the lower the variance the better balanced the cells are, and that can be an indicator of overall battery pack health.
-
It's not so much harm that you know it, but people who don't have a clue what it is, or how to read it, now all of the sudden have 500 questions, oh this says this, this did that, my bike is broke fix it !!!
Most normal people wont have a clue what much of it means anyways so why bury them in gobbelty gook they don't need? Those who DO know what it means or have a clue how to interpret it, already have figured out how to get at it :)
sometimes more isn't better it just causes un necessary grief when people start chasing ghosts and boogey men.

My dealer doesn't have access to the Energica suite server any more so they can't really help, even if they wanted to. I suspect it's the same for most dealers world-wide.

Once all that bankruptcy process is all complete I am sure they will be given access back. Right now, all of that stuff, is considered intellectual property, in the bankruptcy courts, so has to be protected, hence they take it down so it can't be hacked, damaged, destroyed etc by angry people etc because it IS something that carries a monetary value to it.
This is exactly the same reason that NO they can NOT tell you what type of cells they use in their battery packs, etc etc and stuff like that, it's intellectual property of the company and has a monetary value. By telling you that, that item, is no longer 'property of' the company it's gen public knowledge now, so that just harmed the company by giving away for free, something that had value, hence cheating any creditors, and any potential buyers. This is why it is ILLEGAL for anyone who works for or is involved with anything of the company or this procedure and knows, to tell you this info.
Hopefully in a few weeks, the entities involved, have things worked out and they let them get back to business as usual, or do the auction, or whatever to go from there. It takes time, so we all wait.

Not real good for Energica bike owners who need servicing, spares or repairs now... and can't get anything done by their local dealer....and are basically left with what is essentially a dead bike for the foreseeable future. What happens to them I wonder..??

It's not energica's call, it's the law. If they tell you this info or give it away or open it up, the person doing it could be fined / put in prison etc.
Now if YOU wanted to open up your bike and divulge what you found that would be one thing, but if you work for/with them then its violating the law, because that knowledge has value, and until the bankruptcy is processed, intentionally harming the value, which may potentially be needed to pay back investors, which would possibly include you as well, not a good thing.
Also, the US dealers ARE open, and Energica is shipping the parts they currently have and doing what they can in the mean time. Again, they are being limited by what they can do, are allowed to do, because of the proceedings. If you need something call the US office. Ive been in touch with them already concerning my bike which they currently have, so yes, they ARE open.

Lucky US, in Europe / Germany no one shipps any thing. They are simply unreachable on any means... >:(
