Title: New NexGen app available (on Android at least)
Post by: JaimeC on January 28, 2023, 09:46:16 PM
If you have an older (Gen2) bike, this one should allow you to update the firmware on your bikes so you shouldn't need the old app anymore.  I've installed it, but right now I'm 3,000 miles away from my Zero so I can't test it till I'm back home.

The newest version (1/23) still explicitly says firmware upgrades for S, SR, DS, DSR, FX, FXE and FXS are currently unavailable. The feature will be re-enabled on a future release.

It says bluetooth connection solved. Did they solve this super annoying bug that cut the GPS navigation randomly while riding, forcing you to cut the engine to get it back ?

What did Zero post elsewhere two days ago and revised in between?

*EDIT* — the app update was selected for an extra review by Google and should be live by Monday the 30th or Tuesday the 31st at the latest.

Hello Zero Owners,
Tomorrow we will be releasing NextGen Android app version 2.7.1 which combines all the best features of both of Zero Motorcycles’ previous app offerings to date, with compatibility with the entire Zero Motorcycles range from 2013 forward.
This newest version of the app will include all the features from previous versions, but will additionally address the following bug fixes and concerns, please note that this affects Android users only:
· Fixes a variety of display and user interface issues
· Fixes an issue that prevents successful login
· Fixes a Bluetooth connection issue
· Fixes an issue preventing selection of Canyon ride mode
· Fixes an issue that prevents the app from downloading available firmware updates
As always, if you experience any issues with the new release, please write to us at ownersupport@zeromotorcycles.com so we can promptly notify the appropriate teams here at Zero.

On another note, <some sales talk about promotions>

Thank you for your continued support!

What do I expect from the NextGen Android app after reading this text?

What do I really expect having used ZM software in the past?
I won't be bothering to try it on my Gen II bike until the reviews on the play store climb. ATM, it's at 2.6 stars (1.6 stars given that every review must at least give one star). So, out of four possible stars to give (4=excellent), reviewers gave less that half of the possible (1.6=below expectations).

Keep your fingers crossed that the new app will not follow in the footsteps of other app updates that have been introduced over the past 10 years.  ::)

The only thing I can figure is that Zero doesn't actually test the app before releasing it. That seems stupid, but the fact is, as programs go, this app isn't doing much. It's a handful of basic commands. Sure, bugs might come out after release that pertain to specific builds of phone operating systems, but that doesn't appear to be what we're seeing. And what's with the continued lack of ability to handle firmware updates on the Gen 2 bikes? That programming was already written, and all the sudden it's just gone.

Tried it this evening and the previous post is correct:  It STILL is incapable of doing firmware updates for the Gen2 bikes, despite what they said in their press release.  :(
