Title: Socket Cover
Post by: wadejesu on January 09, 2023, 02:18:05 AM
Does anybody make a cover for the charger socket?

From all the pictures I have seen the bike came with covers. Looks like they left them off or it’s a cost reduction on the new model year.

My understanding is that only European bikes come with a charger socket cover. US bikes don’t come with one. That being said, maybe someone on the forum has 3D printed one by now and has the file to share?

So if they supply them on the European models you should be able to order it from Energica.

This works okay, but is somewhat clumsy w/o tethers...

PM me for Fusion 360 source cad / slicer files if interested.

Why printing when you can buy it for small money?  ???
Google it or look at Aliexpress. Search 'CCS port cover'.
Lots of choice there.

When I googled it all I found were for the EU CCS II standard and not the US CCS1 standard.

My Euro model came with tethered rubber bung type covers that are a bit naff, flippy covers would be better.

The tether for my AC half lost its pin at some point.

Are the covers really that necessary or mainly just to help keep a little dust out etc...?? They all live under the seat on all models except the Experia right..??

My Tesla doesn’t have a dust cap and it’s never been a problem. Even charging in the rain doesn’t hurt it.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that the US CSS looks different from EU CCS.

I see advantages in covering the sockets because they are situated horizontally (cars often have them at least nearly vertically).
Everything is open to the ambient and by driving through hard rain or charging during snow/rain debris and moisture could find a way in, leading to corrosion. Worst case would be frozen water hindering charging.

I cannot understand the reason why the US version has no cover. It might be an US standard (NEMA?) that disallows Energica to provide such. In my view the lack of cover offerings for CCS1 in the web does substantiate this.

The Experia charge port is near vertical on the right side, but has a flappy cover thingy as well. At least it doesn't need the seat lifted to charge, could be a bit of a faff if you have a tailbag or luggage strapped to the back of the seat.

I doubt frozen water would hinder me in Australia....where I live, we rarely see single figures in degrees C....even in the middle of winter. All year round riding is the norm here. :P

That’s a great looking cover. Be careful and loose it so you will have to get a replacement.
