Title: ST2 Turn System??
Post by: SonOfAnakin on September 29, 2022, 04:25:17 AM
I’ve been told by one person so far that the ST2 Turn System is incompatible with Energica bikes. I’m really hoping they are mistaken. Has anyone successfully installed one?

They have a 'compatibility' check on their website. You put your motorcycle, year, and email and they will let you know if it will work. Better to check with them directly.

Your good to go.

I'll be doing the install soon and attempting to record it and make a youtube video for the process.  I am NOT an expert on this and it will be my first time doing it.  But from what I can tell from Youtube, I think everyone will be used to that.  :)

Your good to go.

I had email contact with Mark Nest and Miha Kovac from STS, the webpage says it does but they say it is not

Thanx for this info. I was on the verge of ordering one. Too bad that there's no solution for the Energicas. At least the turn signal switch works way more precise than the one of my KTM SDR3.

I spoke with Chris Paz (Energica Support Manager for US) and he says it will work and gave me the wiring information I needed.  The turn signals do not go through the computer so there will not be any errors thrown and the wiring is fairly simple, once you know which wires to use.

This is good news. Would be great if you could share the info/pictures.

I’ll be bringing the bike inside for winter storage soon and doing the install and video then. Too cold to do it now and have some family things taking precedence.   I will update this thread.

Excellent, thanks. Looking forward to it.

I'm curious 2,

Keep us informed, it's a pity that the manufacturer of STS doesn't just make the effort to check after email contact and just says no.
Their website says yes and a "personal" contact no, strange.... looking forward to your findings, good luck with the installation.

I ordered a STS2 module and I have sent Chriz a chat but have not had a response yet, would you please share the wiring information.

Got it, this is the installation "manual" ... we just do not have a flasher relay on ower bikes :(

@SonOfAnakin  ,  please share your wiring diagram with us or did you already installed it on your bike ?

I’m traveling now but I will. Sorry. Been a busy time for me and my family.

Actually, I had enough of it in my email. It’s just a part of the diagram, but it’s the important part.

There is a 10 pin black connector under the right tank fairing, this is where the left control plugs into the main wiring harness. That connector is not labeled but the wires on the bike side of the harness are all marked with micro printing. There should be a number of purple wires on that side of the connector and one black wire. This black wire is pin 6 and the one directly above it is pin 1 (grey on the control side of the connector).  This doesn’t go through the computer so no errors or faults are expecting. I’m going to splice the STS2 into the controls side of the connector.

I have not done my install yet so I cannot guarantee this info until I do.

From Energica electrical schematic D022 is "LEFT_DIR_LT" and D023 is "RIGHT_DIR_LT" and both are Outputs from VCU, connect to lights and recognized by diagnostics for normal function.

The (3) Inputs referenced in thread, D010, D015, D016 originate from switch-gear and are indeed inputs to VCU, low side active, momentary.

Cool beans we get to see ST2 instruction set.  Scratching head waiting to hear how this is going to work, seems like the next step is to secure a flasher relay and totally isolate VCU?

Guys, I don’t get it. Would you be able to explain the base function on the Energica to me please (w/o ST2 present)?

I’ve attached file where SonOfAnakin‘s excerpt was taken from. All I have is from the Ego, it should be the same on all bikes. Experia tbd… I do not have my Ribelle any more. A bike and a Multimeter would help a lot understanding how it works.

The wiring diagram stops short at the connector interface, so the following needs to be verified.

I had already been thinking about this myself, I now have the ST2 module and if I can't figure it out I'll just make a separate indicator system with a relay.
I have these relay's more than enough for both LED and regular halogen lights from my builds.

Okay, I've started the project, except the bike is in LPR mode and it's seriously freezing here  :-\.

So I go ahead and try something now, have already taken a picture of the connector and marked the colors. If anyone else wants to do this also, they shouldn't be looking for the wires anymore.

Okay, so it doesn't work and I'm not going to mess around any longer and just make a separate system with an LED relay. There are no errors when you
disconnect the wires from the "ecu" so I think this is just the easiest way. I am used to making cabling and I count on wiring the entire bike with this relay
and ST2 module in just under 2 hours.

Well that's a bummer. But glad to hear that you have a workaround. Can't wait to see your final conclusion as I would also like to have the functionality of the ST2. So please share once you are finished!

I will certainly keep you all posted, I have already worked out a wiringloom with a minimum of work, the wires on pins 3 , 4 , 5 and 7 need to be cutted. This way you can use the handlebar switch combined with the new relay and ST2 module. For the indicators you can tap in the wires from the front indicators L+R , did a test yesterday with a mock-up install and it worked just fine. The only thing I do not have with test installation is the arrow indicator in the dash, need to find the wires from these. With the test I did there also where no fault codes so far.

But I had to process some bad news, my mother just passed away on just 2 months after my father. So I'm going to have to deal with that first, funeral, emptying the house and all the paperwork that it entails.

But if in the meantime someone might know which wires control the arrows in the dashboard, feel free to let me know, otherwise I will look into it, but it will not be right now.
