10/01/2019 Updated Zero app in the Google Play Store
« on: October 01, 2019, 08:28:02 PM »

Downloading now...

"What's New" simply says:  "New Look and Feel."  That could be a good thing, or a bad thing.  Guess I'll know soon enough...

Wow... it really DOES look different.  I haven't been able to explore it much but at least it kept the same "Dash" layout that I had previously set.  Need to do more exploring when I have more time at home.

For some reason my "Custom" settings were reset to defaults when I first opened it.  I've put it back to where I had it before and all seems good now.  It hasn't reset either.  Wonder why that was "forgotten" but not my dash layout?

The updated app made absolutely no changes to my custom programming or to any of the app's design or features.   Everything is just the same as it was before the update.  ???

That is very strange.  It looks VERY different on my phone (Galaxy S10).

That is probably my problem.  I have a bottom-feeder $150 LG phone that I only use to make phone calls, listen to robocall voice mail messages and to check on my Zero.   I bet if I had a more expensive phone the app would look different.  ::)

Interesting but... Richard230 and I have regular old 2018 "S" model Zeros, not the new-fangled fancy SR/F.  Does Zero use the same app for both model lines?  I guess it would save development time to have a single code base, but it looks like the SR/F has far more capabilities than the bikes we have...

They do not use the same app.
When you go to install the app for the SR/F it explicitly states it is only for 2020 SR/F

Thanks for the clarification.  That makes more sense.

I agree, that is understandable, but I do wonder what the automatic Zero app update did for my 2018 S screen?  It is a mystery to me, unless the update that I received only works if you have an SR/F.  That would make sense, too.   ???

They change the stuff in the background of the apps as well as the foreground.  The SR/F uses a completely different app.

That may be, but I just don't see it.   ???

It seems to be a different codebase, in addition to the UI facelift.

I don’t have a bike to test it with, but reports from Facebook indicate better but not perfect interaction around the Bluetooth connection with the bike.

The interaction and UI layout are definitely improved, and it seems to offer more app-dash display options.

My one real annoyance is the font. It bothers my eyes and I cannot figure out why it was chosen other than to look cool. You can tell that the kerning isn’t top notch by noticing uneven spacing between characters. Maybe it’s more legible while riding but I would guess the opposite.

I agree... the numbers on the "dash" are smaller than they used to be making it a bit harder to interpret at a glance.
