New software updated available for my 2018 S
« on: September 17, 2019, 09:18:53 PM »

Just noticed last night that there is a new update available for my S.  I haven't installed it yet; maybe tonight.  Anybody else notice this?

I just checked. Two BMS updates both numbered 36 is available for the 2018 S. Downloading now. It seems to be going quickly.  I wonder why the headlight and tail light need to be on during an update?  And why do two separate BMS updates have the same number?

Here is how we play the game:  It took about 10 minutes to download the two firmware packages, then another 10 minutes for the bike's screen to keep flashing with all of its lights on.  After that the lights turn off, but the display screen continues to flash.  Eventually, after about 40 minutes total and the screen still flashing I took a look at the Zero app and it said that the download had failed and to turn the ignition off and back on again.  When you do that the screen stops flashing, the lights come on. When the app reconnects to your bike again and you check for any new firmware updates, it says that your bike is up to date and there are no new firmware updates available. That is Zero's roundabout way of telling you that the download was successful and that your bike now has a new BMS program - or is that two of them.  ::)

Downloading now, too.  BMS Level 36, and MBB Version 29.  Zero's website doesn't explain what these new versions do; it still talks about the last update.

Their website tends to lag the firmware updates.  Wait a couple of days and then check again.  Interestingly, I wasn't offered the MBB Version 29, unless it popped up a couple of hours ago. I will have to check again later today.

Installed, and yes... it did say it failed due to error, but after recycling the bike it said there weren't any updates available.  Wonder if they'll ever fix that glitch??

I think that is one of Zero's favorite glitches.  It has now become a feature of their brand.   ::)

Hey at least you guys have a way of determining if you have the latest software on the bike.  With the SRF after all the failures, the only way I “know” it has the update is if it doesn’t ask me anymore.  I always wonder if it finally updated successfully or just got tired of asking.

Well I noticed one obvious change since the update:  The estimated range has jumped up SIGNIFICANTLY.  I'm guessing it'll drop back down once it starts averaging out my typical average speeds day in and day out.  It was interesting seeing "155" when the bike powered on though.  The highest I've ever seen before was about 105.

I rode it back and forth to the doctor's office this afternoon, charged it back up to 100% and then rode into Manhattan for the annual Feast of San Gennaro down in Little Italy.  Be interesting to see the estimated range tomorrow morning when I leave for work.

Hmm, my SR 2017 has updates available to. Installation Failed. When searching for new update there are still available.

Well this morning the projected range was a more realistic (but somewhat lower) figure of 81 miles.  However, once I got to the office, adding the miles accumulated to the miles remaining added up to 86 miles which is right in the ballpark (my commute is almost entirely on the freeway).  I guess the calculations are normalizing.

Much better than the update I got on my old 2016 which made me think only three of the four batteries were active.  Following someone's advice from this forum, I ran the battery down to as low as I dared and after an overnight charge everything returned to normal.  It was very disconcerting to ignore the displayed range and charge remaining and just ride on anyway.  So far, that hasn't happened at all with my 2018.

Sometimes after an update my estimated range will show as much as 220 miles, but after a few trips it will drop down to 160 miles, where it will usually stay until the next update.   :)

Well, did 85 miles today in mixed (but mostly highway) conditions and parked it with 16% charge left.  Not too shabby.  Should have a more realistic range reading in the morning.
