Bar Risers for better comfort
« on: March 30, 2019, 07:15:11 AM »

Hi
Recently bought a 2018 Zero S with 7.2.
Love the bike and get-up-and-go.

Looking for a bit more comfort and thinking bar risers.

Has anyone purchased and if so where & how much?
What size is the handlebar, it appears to be 1 1/8 inch?

Any other comments or help?

thanks

Are the cables and hoses long enough to raise the bars? Just wondering because on the SR/F it looked hopeless.

They weren't long enough on my 2018 7.2S. Dealer says they were on prior years. I did switch to DS bars, which are higher. I wish I had trimmed off an inch from each bar, as they are wider than ideal for a commuter.
I sent Zero a note saying some slack in the cables would be nice for customers like me who would like the option of raising the bars. The reply was only "we'll pass your request on to the design team". They seem pretty committed to the sport touring riding posture.

I put a pair on my 19 SR, no problem.  2” from Revzila.  1-1/8” dia.

Or you could replace your stock bars with these.  I had the high bend bars on my FXS and the cables were fine.  I may have had to do a little re-routing if I remember correctly.

Bar risers... so this is what might make my SR feel more like sitting on my old FX... more upright and less leaning weight on my wrists... right?

Exactly. Some have fore and aft adjustment, too.

Thanks for this input here.

The constant leaning and weight on my hands isn't working out for me either.

@BamBam, for your FXS, I'm not sure if the wiring length would be the same for my '18 SR.

Was the front brake line long enough?  I see that the "high bend" has about 7" rise.

I went and bought used handlebars for $25, with about a 7" rise.

What is the size of the brake line, as I would probably have to buy a longer line?  What is the size of the brake line banjo bolt?

Also, I'd have to splice all of the wires, which is not long term reliable.

I've figured I do need about a 7" rise to get the weight off my hands.

Anyone with an S/SR used "high rise" bars (about 7")?

Bar risers have been the best bang for buck mod on my 2018 DSR. No fitment issues with 30mm tusk brand risers, except the wiring for handlebar controls can no longer be zip tied to the bars. I just tied them together. The front brake line is a little tight, but acceptable in my opinion.

I'm 6' 2" (1.88m) and I'm kicking myself for not doing this sooner. Far more comfortable riding position, better control, better visibility in mirrors, and I think the bike looks better too.

Risers I'm using (1-1/8 bar size and 30mm rise height): https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-handlebar-risers-p

The risers come with chrome plated bolts. They have rusted on my other motorcycles, so I replaced them with these stainless bolts (M8 x 1.25 x 60mm socket cap): https://www.boltdepot.com/Product-Details.aspx?product=22549
