Handguards for SR ?
« on: January 04, 2019, 08:11:19 PM »

Has anyone found handguards to fit a '15 Zero SR?  I got some for my '15 FX (granted, they were difficult to properly mount on the FX), but the SR seems to have no handlebar space to accommodate these at all.
(https://smile.amazon.com/Hanperal-Motorcycle-Handlebar-Handguard-Smoke-Transparent/dp/B01H20WD3C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1546609568&sr=8-4&keywords=motorcycle+handguards)

To be clear, I want these for wind protection, not so much "hand" protection like you'd want for an offroad bike.  I had originally gotten these monsters for cold wind protection, but they unintentionally trigger the brake lever regen way too easily.

If there are no handguard options for the SR, then I suppose I could work around these big "gloves" by disabling regen altogether whenever I need to wear them.

I received generic cycra handgaurds for xmas, but like you said there's really no handlebar space. I could almost make it work but the rails for the windscreen and the brake cable both seem to be in the way.

I was going to get the kit from zero, only to find out it only works on the FX and DS platforms.

I was looking for heated grip options as well. Cold hands are downright dangerous on the bike.

I have these on my '16 DS, too and love them.  They should work on your '15 SR.

On my '16 SR, these work great: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/barkbusters-storm-handguards-bar-end-mount-kit-78-or-1-bars
My bars are 7/8".

I love that solution, my only question would be how much width does it add to the bars? As a fellow Californian, I spend a fair amount of time dodging between lanes in traffic, and any extra width at all makes it harder. As mounted, are they still within the outermost point of the mirrors? The bars are already almost as wide as the mirrors are.

These hand shields add a little to the bar width, but, unless you're going between very low cars like Lotuses, it's still mirror to mirror contact that I deal with.

About an inch to each side of the bars.  I commute every day in bay area traffic with these without issue.  I don't have any problems splitting lanes with these, and the DS bars are wider than SR bars.

I just installed moto-sw ones on my SR 15 , even they are Foto DSR.

They fit well with my wind shield and in my opinion also to the Zero Design, even a bit large...

I have something like this on my FXS - great for driving between lines (leds connect to the turning signs / warning signal).

A nice thing about the bark buster storms is a very fast and simple installation. In warmer weather, the plastic can come off in about a minute, leaving light duty brake lever protection.

I do something similar to this. I bought the carbon fiber shields for the dry seasons. For some reason, they're smaller and don't protect my hands as well as the storms. The carbon fiber doesn't even fully cover the mounting bar!!

I did just get the barkbusters as well and they were incredibly simple to install and will be even easier to remove in the summer.

For those installing the Storms, point the arrow on the side forward. It keeps the drag low while still shielding your hand.

I went with the Barkbusters Storm... I'll report back once I get them on and do a few rides.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!
