Zero Vs. Alta drag race - Motorcyclist Magazine
« on: April 28, 2018, 07:03:01 AM »

Interesting to see a lower powered lightweight bike go up against a heavier more powerful one.

But Zero has a SM style bike in the FXS so why use the DSR?

because the FXS is so slow that it would not be a race.
(not meaning that in a bad way, its just not a drag bike. it IS awesome to ride.)

About how far into the race did each bike hit top speed.
Not sure how quick the Alta is from 0 to 60 but with the
FX at 3.8, and a top speed higher than the Alta, it could make
for an interesting finish.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the video... In my opinion, this comparative was absurd, like putting a SUV against an off-road.

Not as absurd as one might think. When I was racing, we would figure that 10 lbs would equal one horsepower.
Not sure how much if any difference there would with electric. Only real difference would be full torque from Zero RPM.
A HEAVY vehicle with a lot of power could often be beaten by a lighter vehicle with less power.
121 lbs. wouldn't quite make up the difference, but, the Redshift has Less Horsepower than the FX with a lower top speed.
How much of the torque could be utilized off the line on the Redshift is questionable, negating some of it's advantage.
It is also similar in weight to the FX or FXs

Whats absurd is we no long can associate SUVs with off road vehicles.

There is also the matter of overall gearing.  I imagine that the Redshift has a lower gear ratio than the Zero, since is has a lower top speed, and therefore would be putting more torque and power to the rear wheel at most speeds.
