Boosting voltage on Elcon with external PSU

(1/1)

nedfunnell:
I got a deal on a pair of Elcons to charge my homebrew bike. Elcon PFC-2500s, TCCH-60-35. The chargers are 80v max voltage, and for my 24s LiFePO4 pack, I need to get up to at least 85v or so to charge. I have been thinking of wiring an external PSU in series to get to voltage where I need it, probably a 12v one. Getting a 12v/35A PSU for each won't be too hard. Maybe even a 12v/70A one I can use for both, if possible, for simplicity- not sure if that'd work.

Anybody know if the outputs of the Elcons are isolated? That'd make things easier. Anybody done something like this before?

Sounds really dangerous.

Your 80V elcon is 80V "nominal", by the way.  Someone with the right software could probably program it to another voltage.  I'm pretty sure the ones used for Zeros are not 116V max, that's a programmed value.  Look up the app notes and spec sheets for specific model of Elcon you have, see what range it can do.  There are folks on endless sphere, if I recall correctly, that know about programming Elcons.  It's via CANBUS, I think.
