FS: Used Zero 2016 DSR western USA
« on: October 24, 2017, 05:15:24 AM »

For sale:
Zero 2016 DSR ZF13.0
19,000+ mi
Always kept outdoors, well-used and maintained.
Accessories extra can part out if selling bike or include with sale (drop guard bars, Givi V34 case and top rack, apollo heated grips, cycra bar guards, J1772 power inlet, Rox FX 2-in risers, touring windscreen, tank bag plastics).
Currently being serviced for a new motor under Zero Motorcycles factory warranty.

Comes with failed DigiNow SCv2 10kW (three-module) fast charging system for under-cowl install as-is; cost to get a repair estimate from DigiNow was said to be $500-$1500. The motor went bad the same night as the SCv2 system failed and is probably related but I just don't have resources nor motivation to interact further with the support/communication (or lack thereof) from DigiNow. The bike will operate normally without the SCv2 and never had any problem with the factory onboard charger.

This is my daily driver however I just moved to a kind of off-grid situation. Previously I would take public transit when the weather was prohibitive for riding, but that is not an option for me anymore. Winter is here and I need to know what the bike is worth for sale.

He is near Reno, NV.   But closer to Pyramid Lake.

The bike is in a shop in downtown Reno.

I'm located in Reno NV though I've ridden regularly as far as the Zero HQ in Scotts Valley CA without any bike problems. I'd just say we could work out a fair price whatever that means. The bike is a daily driver and I would happily ride anywhere with it, limited only by charging time. I expect it will be back from warranty repair soon as the shop manager (whom is the only one at that business knowing anything about Zero Motorcycles) can make time to implement the fixes / replacement parts as suggested by Zero Motorcycles.

How did the motor fail exactly?

How did the motor fail exactly?
The theory I heard from the service manager what was suggested by factory engineers is that perhaps the target magnet became loose (that which corresponds to the motor encoder sensor) and spinning in place. That makes sense to me for what I experienced. I'll call (again) for a follow-up this week.

I'm kind of thinking when I start riding again I won't want to sell the bike (!)  so while it's in the shop is a good time to trick myself into selling it. =)

Did it make a noise or stop providing power completely? I know what you mean about keping it (see my post about the salvage)

That’s an interesting motor diagnosis. Any idea why or how it might have happened? Was it while riding or charging?

While riding. The motor went out of control and not even the kill switch would work. He was able to shut the bike off only by turning off the key.

Perhaps the target magnet broke loose from just being on rough unpaved roads just before this happened.

I know the story because I was the one to meet him when he broke down and I ordered the tow truck via satellite (Spot Messenger towing service). I won't leave home without it.
