Hello
« on: August 18, 2017, 07:36:46 PM »

Hello long time rider of ICE bikes and lurker of this forum. I really wanted to take an old Rebel 250 and convert it to Electric but the ex-wife wanted it in the divorce  :'( so I had to let it go. I kept all my bigger bikes. Anyway. Lost my leg in a Moto Accident and I am really wanting to ride. Problem is I gained quite a bit of weight and I am wondering what the weight limit is on the Zero?
Thanks in advance.

Specs are right on their pages.  This is a link to the specs for the "S" models:

I was happy to get rid of my old Rebel.  You'll love the Zeros.  Don't read specs, go test-ride an SR.

If he wants to know how much weight they can carry (which WAS his question) then he does want to read the specs. Why test ride if it can't safely carry him (he didn't state his weight so I'm not making any assumptions).

And be sure to test ride in the sport mode.

In the eco mode, my 2017 Zero DS 6.5 seems to have a lot more power than my 2017 SR 13 with power tank. But the reverse is true when in the sport modes.

I don't think the extra battery weight could make that much difference in performance,  so I wonder if the SR is simply trying for a better range spec by having the software for the eco mode a lot less aggressive.

However, even the eco mode in the SR is usually  all the performance  I usually need / want.  I rarely put either bike in the sport mode. But the difference in performance is really something in either bike.

I like custom mode. I like the speed limit of eco mode but 85% of the torque of sport mode, and max regen when I touch the brake lever

I have never used the Custom Mode. At the default values, anybody know what they would it be on my 2017 DS ZF 6.5 and my 2017 SR ZF 13 with Pwr Tank?

I assume it would be somewhere in between the Eco & Sport  modes, but I have never  even tried it out in either of my Zeros.

Hi Don,

I can't remember the defaults, but it's easy to set them where you want them on the app.  I have mine sent to max speed of 80, 100% torque, 100% regen on break.  I'm almost always in custom mode, I put it in eco sometimes when it's raining.

I use Custom mode with 100% on all settings & that's what I'm planing on doing.
I've not yet experienced riding in the rain on my 16 DSR but wicked the throttle once on fog soaked roads (at speed) & got the reaction I was expecting (rear tire spin).

I put her down in the driveway one day last year after washing the bike.  There was some water in the drive and I hit it too hard and the bike was out from under me (after the rear wheel spin) so fast I did not even know what happened until I was sliding down the driveway behind the bike.  Almost no damage (other than to me, and the driveway!).  Since then, I am very, very careful with the throttle on anything other than perfect pavement.

While I own several tablets, it looks like I have to buy another as all mine use an Intel Processor. According to Eric, it has to be an ARM processor. The one that I do have that is ARM, is way too old!  A lot older than the E-bikes.

Anybody here have any recommendations of what type of tablet I should get that will work well with the Zero?  Something I can buy as new these days?

I never got a tablet to work.  It has to be a phone.  I got a $20 burner phone just for the Zero app.

If it doesn't show up in the Google Play store, it could just be that it is a tablet, maybe it's not too old.  What version is it?  (Settings app, all the way to the bottom, About Phone).

I've tested the Zero app from play store recently on phones that are stuck on an old version of Android (Galaxy Nexus,  Jelly Bean) and phones that are quite new (Nexus 5x and Experia XZS, both on Nougat).

Zero App won't install to a tablet from the Play Store, you have to side load it, but it should work if you xfer the app from a phone backup to a tablet of compatible architecture.  I've side-loaded from backups on ARM architecture Android phones to tablets LG G-Pad 8.0 Play Edition and Nexus 7 2013 and Nexus 10 multiple times.  It even works on the big tablets.

I also run side-loaded from a backup on my phones down due to the issue where the new version of the Zero app can read Custom Mode settings but not change them (I hope Zero fixes this soon).

> Anybody here have any recommendations of what type of tablet I should get that will work well with the Zero?  Something I can buy as new these days?

I don't have a specific recommendation for a brand new tablet.  My tablets are all from eBay anymore.  All the currently available tablets seem to be carrier-crapped or samsung-ui.  If I had to buy a new one, it would probably be a LG G-Pad.  My last experience with carrier-crap tablet were a Samsung 7" and a LG G-Pad F7, and I really hated having all that "undeletable" crap on it.  The LG was definitely more tolerable than the Samsung.

I will say that I got a new old-stock nexus 10 off ebay a few months ago, and it's serving me pretty well, even though it would have to have a shelf-aged battery.

Nath,
Zero S is rated for 323 lb (147 kg) to  367 lb (166 kg) depending on the model.

I've felt the Zero would be best for left leg prothetics, no shifter at all, though details on point of amputation... and which leg might keep advice pertinent.

That's been my problem. Thanks for all that info.
