Suggestions for '16 DSR Tires?
« on: July 19, 2017, 05:36:21 AM »

I've read quite a few postings, but I'd like hear about any updated tire experiences folks have had with the DSR.  I heard good things about the Anakee 3's but I don't see the correct sizes available.  I am looking for a 90/10 tire rather than an 80/20, I rarely hit the dirt, and when I do it's pretty subdued.  I'm commuting on the bike and am looking for a smoother road ride.  Any suggestions?

When it comes time to replace my stock tires I have my eye on the Pirelli Scorpion Trail II or Michelin Anakee 3 in a 110/80 front and 150/70 rear (vs 100/90 and 130/80 stock) to get a slightly wider contact patch. I was unsure if the wider rear would mount too close to the belt but there is a guy on the FB group who's done it and confirms it fits with no issues.

I'm using Metzler Tourance Next tires on my DSR, and they're great so far, but I'm not very far into wearing them yet.

The OEM tires lasted 13000 miles on rear and 19000 for the front, so I expect these might last about the same amount.

Thanks Brian.  How do they compare to stock (I had the Pirelli MT-60, did yours?)?  I'm looking for a slightly smoother ride on pavement.  I am just coming up on 7K and the stock rear is on the wear bar, the front has plenty left.

I also have the Pirelli MT60 on my 16DSR with 7200kms. The rear is on the wear bars and the front has lots of tread left. Not sure how others are getting higher mileage? Guess to many full throttle starts ;D. I ride mostly pavement with the odd gravel road exploring. A friend of mine has Heidenau Scout K60s on his Vstrom and loves them. Just ordered a set to see how they perform on the DSR.

I put a pair of the Metzler Tourance Next tires on my DSR last night.  I was kind of shocked at the difference in road noise.  The bike is so much quieter now.  I just did a quick ride to ensure I got everything back together OK, I'll get more time on the tires this weekend.  Thanks to the contributors on the unofficial service manual, it gave me the confidence to remove and re-install my wheels.

Thanks for the input!
