400kw charging is ready when you are.
« on: May 30, 2017, 10:02:27 PM »

From the You Tube show Fully Charged  comes a story about a new 400kw charging station coming to the UK.  Tesla superchargers are at up to 150kw charging now, so umm yeah.

This "notalotof..." article ist 80%BS, with small parts of truth included. It does not know the concept of "smart grid", and the fact that larger batteries do not mean more consumption, but opposite, more possibilities to manage the instants of charging, or discharging. A modern network with a lot of solar and wind energy needs absolutely a large amount of storage capacity. Th future EV's will be able to do that job at no investment for the network operators.

The simplistic arguments provided are typical of those oil warriors who find their wealth in the so easy "don't change your habits" way of talking to the general (unknowledgeable) public.

EV's will help renewable energies finally prevail. Doing nothing means going on driving on oil and making electricity on coal or nuke.

Indirectly.  What will make them work is battery (or other) storage... and what makes battery storage work are powerful and efficient AC inverters.

If EVs go into mass production, batteries and modern high current AC devices like SiC power MOSFETs will drop in price, making mass grid storage for load balancing possible.

Once you uncouple energy generation from consumption, you are finally free to use wind/wave/solar and not just be stuck with nuclear as the only clean option.. (and not dirty old reactors, molten salt reactors that just run off what the old reactors made as waste)

Don't listen to today's news.  ::) Our guy is at it again (just delete the nukes).   :o
