Zerp app problem in 2014 models
« on: April 22, 2017, 10:38:22 PM »

Did someone figure how to fix the app problem with the 2014 models?
Ever since I updated the bike's software, custom mode parameters can not be saved.

Perhaps downgrading to the previous app version is possible. I know there are quite a few zero owners with this problem, but so far I see no fix from Zero ( should be pretty easy to fix).

I have the original factory programming from January 2014 on my PT equipped S and also have the latest update to the Zero app on my LG phone. Custom mode adjustments still work just as well as they always did on my bike, as does the rest of the app. When it comes to computer software updates and revisions, I prefer not to get it (if I have a choice) as long as everything is working fine, there are no problems, and I am happy with my Zero. Why mess with a good thing? ;)

I agree, but if you don't keep your bike updated, your warrenty is void.
Basically, that's the main reason for upgrading.

That is news to me.  The warranty terms for my 2014S didn't mention anything like that. In any case, my warranty has long since expired and I am now covered by keeping my fingers crossed and my hope that nothing goes wrong.   ;)

I've been able to connect to my 2016 SR with an iPhone 6 and ios10, and successfully set the custom mode. I recently bought a mount for my phone and tried it today for the first time. Doesn't quite work! Bluetooth connects, but speed remains at zero. Remaining range (I'm assuming "distance to empty" on the app is the same as remaining range) showed something crazy, like my odometer mileage minus a couple of hundred miles. I'm very disappointed since I spent $65 on the mount.

I have an older android lying around somewhere; if I can find it I'll see if that works. I now totally understand why people are frustrated with the app! Closing note: I've use it before while charging (J1772). All of the displays on the "battery" panel appeared correct -- except "Time Until Charged," which always shows 0.00 (I know someone else has mentioned this).

If the app worked correctly it would be a fantastic "selling" point for Zero! Am hoping they will fix it soon.

The app also shows always "0" for the charging current/power.

For those like me who cannot set the custom mode via the app, there is a go-around (not as easy as the app), which is to build the serial interface cable (using the OBD2 port in a non-CAN way) and then connect the zero to your computer and login level 1, so you can set the custom mode parameters. And they are kept.

Between a 2013 S and a 2015 SR
With Android 5.1 my connection and control is spotty - the application works best if the Zero Application turns on the bluetooth.
With Android 6.1 there are no problems.

I know that might not be relevant to 2014's.

However - two points that are universal:
1. I  unzipped the tankbag, pushing the lid inside and lay my phone face up before committing to buying a mount.
2. With my mount I often use an "out of service phone" which is using my live phone as a hotspot (safely in a pocket).

Found a solution for those 2014 owners with no ability to change and store parameters in custom mode.

Remembered that I have the previous Zero app version on my older phone. Transferred the app to my current phone (via shareit app) and now all works well.
I suppose I can send that version to those needing it. There must be a way to send apps to distant phones.
Custom mode works great now.

Should mention, I am using android.

That means the newer app version is spoiled, but not with all bikes? Incredible!

How to Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V the app from your phone to eeh, the unofficial Zero manual? :-)

The newer app version do not work well for many of the 2014 models. For other years it seems to work fine.

If you find a way, I'll gladly send the app.

FWIW.... I have a 2014 Zero S and 2017 Zero SR and all functions of the app work perfectly for me on both bikes.

I used to have problems on my 2014 S with the app not showing time to full charge or charging amps but that was fixed after a firmware update on the bike in October 2016.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and Nexus 6P both running the latest OS and the app works fine on both.

I don't think there is a direct correlation between bike or phone models for those that are having problems.  Probably why it's taking them so long to get the app fixed.

The problem started after I updated my bike's firmware. Guessing your 2014S is not updated?

Uploaded the previous Zero app for all those having difficulties with the updated version.
Should be easy and requires downloading and installing from the link below.

Good luck, Oded.

Anybody with a different older version of the apk? Please make it available. I recall there was a version 1.2.9 if anyone has this?

No....It IS updated.  Just updated in October as stated in my previous post.....Re-read what I said ;-)

October of last year was before the most recent app update so the sequence was as follows...

Time to full charge and charging amps not working.
Firmware on 2014 S updated in October 2016 and everything in app works afterwards.
App updated in November 2016 and for me everything still works in app but many others have problems.

I have seen posts of people with pretty much every year bike 2013+ (including 2017) and Android and Apple phones that say it's not working which is why it seems to be a crap shoot to me and the reason I suggested it's taking them so long to fix.
