Zero SR 2014 Brake pads
« on: April 01, 2017, 10:07:29 PM »

Got my new set of front brake pads for my Zero SR yesterday in the mail, mailed to me by my dealer.
The bag is labelled with the partnumber 25-0594001 and description Front Brake pad replacement Kit 13MY IMPL QTY1

The pads are from Nissin and have the partnumbber TT2508HH on them.
The brakepad came with a (stainless) steel backing plate (don't know the official term)

The weird thing is that the package only contained a single brakepad and the backingplate was not for this brakepad but for the brakepad on the other side of the disc.
I have (obviously) contacted the dealer as to why they would send out just a single brakepad :)

I think the nissin number has come up in some thread already but it is always good to confirm that it is the correct brake pad for the Zero SR MY2014
The package details from the dealer said "13-14MY front brake pad set"

The price was a hefty 87 euro's, i hope that's not just for a single brake pad, LOL

Brilliant! Thanks for documenting this and with pictures. Would you like to add this to Zeromanual wiki?  It is exactly the sort of thing (Zero OEM parts) which I've added previously, and have gotten positive remarks about.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe all the '14 Zeros use the same front brake pads as your bike (my '14 FX does).  FWIW, both my OEM TT2508HH front pad sets came with only one backing plate (used on the 'in' pad, nearest the wheel).

I just got back from testing the Brembo 07KA1705 carbon-ceramic front pads (same size as the TT2508's) on my street FX.  These pads are excellent!  IMO they have more stopping power and better feel than the stock sintered ones, and finally my horrible front brake squeal is completely gone (!).  I've been using these for a while now on my other FX, they work great there too - you might want to just return your pad/plate to the Zero dealer for a refund and try out the Brembos (Mad4Brakes in Italy has them, but they should be easy to find in Europe).

Glad the Brembos worked for you, Ray. Do they have a backing plate too? I generally find that find copper grease between the back of the pad and backing plate is the best cure for loud brakes.

The Brembo pads don't use a backing plate - they use a thick (ceramic?) coating instead.  IMO it's hard to go wrong with Brembo.

Looks like Brembo has pads for other Zero models and years. Unfortunately, they have a terribly uninformative and poorly designed web site, and apparently no dealers in the US...

What was the price for your front pads in Italy? I might try Brembo next - my organic rear pads from EBC are excellent (quiet and smooth, yet strong), but I don't like the fronts that much - noisier than the rear and not as smooth (though no squeal any more, at least).

I think the front pads in the link below may fit your bike, don't know for sure:

My pads were about the same price.

Thanks, the €20 price seems reasonable. Shipping to US is €25, to some other EU countries that I might be visiting this summer it was strangely €28 ...

Yup, looks like this is the so called "premium" carbon ceramic pad listed on the Brembo site to fit the '15 SR.

http://moto.brembo.com/en/results/zero/zf_sr/12.5/2015/pads/front

They are also available in the US off eBay from several sellers, for prices varying from $25 to $80 plus $20+ shipping... I suppose, for about $50 one can get them with a month wait...

I just ordered a set from the Italian site at $46 (€41) delivered to the US. Double what I paid for the EBC pads off Amazon, but if they work better, it will be worth it... Will update the post when I get them and install them.
