I've been having a careful poke around on my FXS. So far, just disassembled the dash. Not sure if there's anything worth writing up on the wiki, but this is what I found.
There's a PIC28F25K80 microcontroller. I'm not too familiar with PICs but from the specs it's fairly puny. I doubt this is doing much more than listening to CAN messages telling it what to display. Maybe handling small stuff like setting the time. Basically it's a dashboard and nothing more hidden in there.
There's a MCP2551 CAN transceiver. There's a large CP2653 LCD driver to drive all those segments on the display. There's a coin cell battery - probably just for the clock.
I'd have thought that the most interesting thing you could do poking around in here might be to the change the startup animation.
