Eva test ride & review w/ video
« on: February 02, 2017, 10:37:13 PM »

Here is my latest review of the Energica Eva on GreenCarReports.com.  I was impressed with how comfortable a seating position it had, but was blown away by DC fast charging capability built in!

Ben,

Thanks for the review. What were your thoughts on the range? I realize it has a much smaller battery than the Zero SR but hard to say how much of the 11.7 kWh battery is available compared to Zero.

That DC fast charging is going to spoil you rotten.  I was looking at a charging map and saw some DC stations at Nissan dealers but i don't know if they all go at the same power levels.
Just wondering how long it takes to charge at a home 120V outlet and well does it even have a 120V charging option.
You might have to give up that teaching gig and just do reviews and play with new expensive toys all day.

This test ride convinced me that D.C. Fast charging is necessary to move electric motorcycles out of being a niche market to mainstream.  If the price were the same for a gas bike and an electric motorcycle with D.C. Fast charging, people would actually switch even if range per charge didn't increase.

Also, I would be happy to test out more expensive toys, especially those named after natural electrical phenomena...

Btw, the D.C. Charging Stations at Nissan dealers are CHADeMO, and don't work with Energica.  However, the network of CCS fast chargers is growing every month!

The range of the Eva was okay, but we throttled it the whole ride, so I can't compare it to my zero.  We did manage to ride it until it was out of charge, but I coerced it to limp to the station.  Unfortunately my camera ran out of battery at that point, so I don't have a recording of thoughts or photos of the odometer.

I agree with 100%. DC fast charging is the way to go. My Spark EV (car) has the CCS option and even though the car only has about 80 miles of range, I can drive it all over Maryland, DC, New York, Jersey, PA and Delaware with no worries. I was seriously considering the EVA solely for its CCS option. When Zero comes out with a CSS option, I'll be all over it in a heartbeat.

Yeah, I'm seriously tempted to get either an Eva or an Ego (leaning Ego) in a year or so's time.
Thanks for the review.  ;D
