Custom paint and bodywork?
« on: July 11, 2016, 04:00:15 AM »

Hi folks!

Any custom paint jobs out there? I hear that getting replacement plastic is pretty cheap, and am thinking about doing a metallic blue paint job on mine. Any thoughts or suggestions for approach?

There's this guy: http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=3926 http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=5477

Harlan has a custom blue paint job, and Ben Rich recently got something a little bolder...

Wraps were discussed as well: http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=5401

FWIW the tail plastics are the only difficult part to remove for work (see the wiki manual for some instructions).

This is what my SR looks like now.

Wraps are good, but if you can afford it there is nothing like a good airbrush artist.

Mine was done by SM Airbrushing in NJ.

Ballpark, how much did that cost,  Ben? Current thought is to get new plastics at the same time as a new charger (once those become a "thing"), and roll it all into one update.

P.S. Sorry I missed you in Seattle! Been out of the forums lately and just saw you were in town.

Not really custom but painted bodywork.

Nice! Did you take those plastics to a shop or order new ones or what?

It cost about $1700 all told.  Including a portrait of Tesla and a lithium atom.

The dealer brought the original parts to the painter and mounted them afterwards.
