Wider belt
« on: February 28, 2016, 01:55:32 AM »

Has any one done this yet? Two rear sprockets facing one another and a wider front pulley running two belts or 1 wider belt. Just a crazy idea that popped into my head just now. Going out to garage straight away to see if there is enough space on the front.

More strength I guess. I was thinking more for highly modified or racing applications.

GATES makes the same belt in 12mm, 15mm and 30mm widths.  Might have also seen 20mm in the catalog.

If it would allow downgearing of the SR, I'm in.

Please explain why you cant to that now. Part availability?

What is motor efficiency vs speed?  How would down-gearing a Zero SR affect range at 65 to 75 MPH?

One point of a wider belt (like a wider tire) would also add a more "powerful" image, even if we have no problem with the stock one!

This is a solution in need of a problem.

There are only two reasons I can think of needing a wider belt...

1. You added a clutch and want to be able to clutch it up (shock loading)

2. You have an FXS and want to jump on asphalt.. (shock loading of landing)

Looks like there is some room between the frame. Maybe something like this would work.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gates-8MX-22S-20-Poly-Chain-Sprocket-New-No-Box/350392086828?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D35852%26meid%3D5f19609d1c764df0bfa1032608e5a344%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D350428948756

Many different options for # of teeth although too small would be hard on the belt according to the belt handling guide.
