ABS disable and the owner's manual.
« on: January 25, 2016, 07:22:18 AM »

I am trying to figure out how to safely disable the ABS because it really sucks in the dirt. The 2016 FX came with a 2015 book in which I have found many inconsistencies and just plain false information. The way the book says to disable the ABS on the console does nothing on my 2016 FX. I read on this forum that the ABS fuse could be pulled but in the book it shows two ABS fuses. Pull 'em both? If not, which one? Or is there only one in the 2016?
I am amazed at the lack of information afforded by the Zero factory. Just a few things I would like to know are; How many cells in the battery packs? Operating voltage of the motor system, available fault current and voltage of a fully charged battery pack. I assume the current will be around 420 or so as that is the size or the motor controller.
Warning labels of lethal electrical shock beyond this point beg for more information.
Why can't I get this information from Zero? Is it a trade secret or did I just not pay enough for the bike to get real tech specs?
Any info I can glom from this forum will be very welcome.

The short answer is: they don't have enough people/time/money to provide support at that level.

The long answer is that most of the information has been dug up on the forum, but forums don't really present the information as documents like a wiki. Maybe we should host one.

They already have extensive spec sheets for every model. They don't have the resources to include # of cells and voltage?

Thanks for the URL to all the information. A lot in there, for sure. But I still didn't find out how to disable the ABS. Somebody on here has got to know how.

Page 6.27 of the 2016 FX owners manual shows the relevant fuse block. One of those fuses is for the ABS system. Just pull that.

Perhaps what you've identified about the battery system is just the nature of product abstraction. Remember that you void your warrantee by cracking it open, so they're not disposed to explain it readily. I know I've seen this information before, and a lot of it is linked from the thread I posted. Which is why I posted it. Good luck!

lol
from what I can see.. thats the ABS pump fuse.
the other two are the ABS logic fuses...
pulling any of them would disable the system.

Thanks for the replies. As a 2015 book(Thumbnail drive) came with my new 2016 FX, I wasn't sure if it was accurate. It also says the ABS can be disabled from the console but it does nothing on my bike. I'll try pulling one of the fuses and if it works out I'll build a jumper from the holder to a simple switch with an inline fuse of the same value in the line.
