how to remove handlebar ends/caps
« on: January 16, 2016, 03:11:09 AM »

Short question;

How do i remove the ends of the handlebar of my DS?
There are no screwes. I want to fit new mirrors because the original ones just dangle in the direction of where the wind is going...  Anyone else or just my experience? Great for range but not great for my safety.

The new mirrors require new handlebar ends or caps. (dunno how to name it in english)
Thanks a million in advantage!

There were no bar ends on my '14 DS. Just straight rubber grips.

MY14 Zero bikes don't have bar ends (I think all Zero's prior to MY15 but I can't confirm).  In that case you would just cut the end of the grip off.

MY15 and MY16 Zero's started using bar ends.  They should just pop off if you pull on them with some pliers (vice grip pliers would be best).  If you don't want to damage the bar ends you can wrap them in a cloth before you pull on them.  You might have to kind of wiggle them as you are pulling on them to rock them out of the handle bars.

Just tap them gently on the side and a gap will open. place something like and old knife in the gap and tap on the oppisite side, then you can pry them off carefully if you don't want to damage them. Mine are plastic so they are easy to damage. I shortened mine on a lathe and put them back in (for riding between cars).
