County assessed value 2012 DS $12,175
« on: October 19, 2015, 01:15:25 AM »

Just got my 2015 personal property tax bill from the county. Assessed value of my 2012 Zero DS ZF9 is $12,175. Should I call the county Treasurer to see if he wants to buy it for that?

You get taxed on your assets? What kind of crazy tax system do you have?

Try California. Vehicles are taxed every year based upon their initial purchase price, not their current value.  The vehicle value that the DMV uses just drops 10% every year.  After 10 years the tax bottoms out and you end up paying just registration fees, which are a little above $100 right now. Good for them, not good for vehicle owners.   :(

Our DMV in Nevada is similar, only, not as aggressive on lowering the taxable value. I purchased a 2014 Ford Focus Electric last year in California. They required me to have California registration on the car
to drive it away. I could have gotten a drive permit from DMV, but, transaction took place after business hours, and, I did not have time to wait until the next day. The original cost of the car was $40K. Two
price adjustments brought it to $33K, incentives and credits brought my out the door price to around $22K. I just got my renewal from California. $242. I checked with Nevada DMV. 2nd year of registration,
basically a two model year old vehicle would cost me over $700. They value it on MSRP, nothing to do with actual cost. My 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid registration has finally come down to under $200. My
2013 FX 5.7 ( officially 2.8 ) was just a bit over $200 when I renewed this year. On the other hand, my 1987 Grand National with a value of two to 3 times my Civic or FX is only $33. So, I guess if we wait
long enough.....

My 2012 ZF6, "Original Taxable Value" of 9770, cost me $115 this year for tags.  (Year 1 was $344, Year 2= $179, Year 3= $150.)

In Colorado, we have the "Tabor" amendment which prevents tax increases without a public vote.  Tax increases are almost always voted down, so vehicle registration got around that by adding fixed "Fees" which aren't related to the value of the vehicle.  I have a 1947 trailer which lists an "Original Taxable Value" of $25.   But my tags for it are >$50/year, of which $3 is "tax" and the rest are "fees"!  :)  Funny!

I was able to get them to reduce the assessed value from $12,175 to $8,397.

They were using the NADA value on the web which is way too high - $13,995. And then subtracting a little depreciation to get at the $12,175 number.

I think trade-in value of a 2013 S 11.4 is only 7.5k :*(
Retail value 10k
So private sale around 8.5k?

Granted it doesn't apply well to my bike given up modifications :/

This'll torque off some folks here.

I'm in Montana.  Motorcycle registrations are all "permanent" - they never expire and only need be updated with a change of address.  It's a one-time fee of $85.

Better stay away from California.  We get screwed big-time every year.   >:(
