43mm KTM forks
« on: June 25, 2015, 07:38:04 AM »

I've found 43mm alternative forks that will fit the '14 FX triple clamps (and possibly the '13 and '15 FX too, but I've no measurements for those) - the '03 to '16  KTM 85 SX forks.  Here are the specs (the KTM travel and OAL may vary slightly between years):

               FX           KTM
OAL       812mm     835mm
Top TC    49mm      49mm
Btm TC   53mm       53mm
Travel    230mm     270mm

There's plenty of upward fork-tube adjustment available in the Zero TC's and all the upper tubes for setting front ride height.

My 2.8 FX weighs 228 lbs, the 2015 KTM 85SX about 150.  The KTM 43mm WP fork is plenty strong, and with proper springs and valving would work fine even for a 5.7 FX and 250 lb. rider, for non-competition use.  Earlier versions of these forks were used on the KTM 520EXC, a 250 lb. motorcycle.

Isn't that the fork KTM use for their freedom e electric motorcycle?
If it is, than it should handle the fx with ease.
Good find.

I didn't realize the Freeride e has 43mm WP forks - that's a good find too, thanks!  That bike weighs 242 lbs - hmm, I wonder what spring rate they use...  :)  Actually, the whole front end looks pretty good to me; 21" wheel, 4-piston brake, etc.
