The cells could have be removed from the battery pack and reconfigured in shape to fit in. That wasn't really the point of the article though, it was the interest that both parties had showed in a possible joint venture.

I actually spoke with the former CEO of Ducati about the possibility to go electric and more specifically buy Zero or Brammo. All he did was smile and say "not in the immediate future". This was some 14 months ago...

I'm curious what others' opinions on this are.  I'd prefer if Ducati did not partner with or buy out Zero.  I like Zero's products, and if they continue to improve pricing, reliability, and dealer support I'd like them even better.  While I think Ducati makes some beautiful bikes, I wouldn't choose to own one, for precisely the reasons mentioned in the previous sentence.

Reliability, Pricing, and Dealer Support, in that order, would go a long ways towards gaining greater ridership in the places where Zero already sells into.

Reliability is supposed to be one of the strongest benefits of going electric, but with all of the technical problems mentioned in forum posts, in my opinion  there is a need for more improvement in this area.

Pricing, along with range, I think is the big factor in the hesitancy of more people not embracing electric vehicles (electric motorcycles included).

And the Dealer Network for Zero discussed in this forum...it's "like a box of chocolates  —  you never know what you're going to get !!"
