2013 DS crash bars
« on: February 16, 2015, 11:04:04 PM »

I am looking for details on how the crash bars are mounted as from the pictures I have seen they don't seem redundant. Meaning if the brace bar loosened the sides would stay on.

Anyone have detailed photos of how they are mounted? I want to use the same technique to mount my vetter fairing.

Things have slowed down enough where I am going to start making my bike cage / engine guard.

I sent an email off to zero to see where to mount to the frame so I don't break my frame or battery case. I think I know how the 2013 bars are mounted up top, not too sure down low. The 2014 are about four inches higher and I have no clue how the top mounts and the bottom looks easy to figure out but looks can be deceiving.

either way I have to move forward if I am ever going to get the first 2013+ model streamlined :/

Anyone have experience making bike cages with square aluminum tube frame bikes? I can't see paying $1400 for a pair of crash bars I am only going to chop up and remove he top mount to weld my own set up custom fit to my needs.  He process, drawings, etc will be well documented for those who wish to do the same or do something similar.

Details and tons of CAD (cardboard aided design) coming soon.

Burton, I have a similar plan too to try and make some and have started collecting the tools - just need the time ! My aim is to make them out of round tube and primary function is to house and protect a DeltaQ on each side. When not using the Chargers they can be replaced with a plastic box to hold crap. One video is saw of a police special had some close ups and I noticed the bottom rear mount is attached to the belly pan. The top is mounted near the top side cowling mounting point. I was trying to make them sacrificial too and figure light gauge tube is the answer so they collapse first. The rear foot peg mount looks like a logical place to attach too. I'd be interested to swap notes

No need to keep notes secret. While I am sure I could "sell" my aftermarket fabricated bars that would mean starting a business, taking out liability insurance, and a whole bunch of other things I don't want to do ;)

Do you have a link to the video? I will post up the images I found later and when I find time make a video going over how I think the 2013's are mounted up top.

Are you putting yours on the rear? If so I have a solution you would probably like better :D

Updating this thread with the wiki's notes, finally:

Product links now available: http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Zero_Aftermarket#Crash_Bars

The Frame section lists attachment points reasonably well now. Replicating these on the 2013 frame would be a bit of work but achievable:
