Market Value for a 2012 ZF6
« on: October 01, 2014, 11:57:44 PM »

Can you guys chime in and tell me what you think the value of a 2012 ZF6 with 7500miles on it, should be.
It is in showroom condition with some accessories (top box, side panier, LED front and back lights, windshield)

www.kbb.com/motorcycles/zero-motorcycles/s-zf6-electric/2012-zero-motorcycles-s-zf6-electric/suggestedretailvalue/

I would take this number less 1k (since trade in starts at 4k) and then add half of the amount of any accessories which are official to the amount and start from there.

yes I saw that $6700 value.
But it is hard to believe when I paid $16K OTD about 2 years ago, and considering that electric motors don't really age, therefore the usability of the bike is good for another 200,000 miles!!

Look on cycletrader then to see what people are selling them for.  When you buy used you always win over new.

I hear you, Larry. (I also own a 2012 ZF6).

But think about this:  A 2014 ZF8.5 has 2x the HP, 50% more battery, better components, looks nicer, 2 year warranty (5 year on the pack), lists for 13K and because it's close out perhaps could be had even cheaper.

-Totally agree about the "fundamental value" - i mean, if Zero keeps providing parts and support.
-Also, until the 2013 models, performances greatly improved year after year, which will probably harm market value a lot.
-The problem is that a market price is the price where demand & offer meet. There are a few bikes on the market, but demand is much lower. With the time, we can hope that demand rises, and some potential buyers understand that they can have a good deal buying a used electrical bike.
-I had a similar issue for a 2012 XU. Finally I preferred giving it to a relative rather than selling it for 2000 euros...

Yes this is crazy. My ZF6 is 2.5 years old, at 7500miles.
I am considering the 15 model, but then again, do I want to take a $10,000 hit on my ZF6 when it is perfectly fine?
Keeping up with technology is clearly expensive  ;)

Then buy a 2015 a couple years from now? I mean your bike is serving your needs is it not?

I also have a 2012 DS ZF-6 with only a few hundred miles on it. HID headlamp. Always plugged in. 17" rear wheel. Chain drive, but I have the belt drive that came off it.

I have offered it at $7000 but so far no takers. Any interest here?

Yep, buying an electric vehicle or motorcycle is pretty risky these years.

I's so much tempted by a Tesla, but what will it worth once they build their giga factory and Model 3?

The Zero was the cheapest EV purchase I could find, that makes the losses a bit lower in comparison to Tesla, Leaf, Volt..

Agreed Kensiko.  Once Tesla has that factory online, it will essentially double the world productions of batteries. So we could see a major drop in battery prices, which would again hit hard any vehicle that was sold prior to that...

As a 2012 S ZF9 owner, I hear you ... but it's a sunk cost. Unless you owe money on the bike, there's really no reason to worry about what you paid for the bike. Do consider how much another new bike would depreciate, though.

Also: $16k for a bike that was $11500 USD, before the 10% federal tax credit? Is that $16k CAD?
