I'm going to call BS. To my knowledge, neither alpha, beta OR gamma rays can split water molecules (not atoms), and if they did, it wouldn't "result in energy". (You also wouldn't want beta or gamma rays ANYWHERE near your gonads.) MAYBE you could separate the hydrogen and oxygen atoms, and then run the hydrogen through a fuel cell, but we still have the problem of the "nuclear radiation" splitting the water in the first place.

It's baloney.

"The field of conventional energy conversion using radioisotopes has almost exclusively focused on solid-state materials. Herein, we demonstrate that liquids can be an excellent media for effective energy conversion from radioisotopes. We also show that free radicals in liquid, which are continuously generated by beta radiation, can be utilized for electrical energy generation. Under beta radiation, surface plasmon obtained by the metallic nanoporous structures on TiO2 enhanced the radiolytic conversion via the efficient energy transfer between plasmons and free radicals. This work introduces a new route for the development of next-generation power sources."

Well..I wouldn't call it an atomic battery...The energy is simply stored by splitting water molecules. For what (imaginary) batteries are concerned, it doesn't really matter that this is achieved with beta radiation.
Still, it would be pretty cool filling up your motorcycle with (ionized) water at the local nuclear power plant. :)

I'm fine with the Beta radiation near my gonads for this.

I could call my kids after the first few rides to make sure they are alright - but I'll think they will stay fine.

The thorium ore in my nightstand's Spinthariscope makes neat flashes at night. (I'm sure it makes neat flashes all the time, I can just only see them at night)

No Problemo.  I will just deal with it the "professional way" the way most of the rest the Nuclear Industry deals with it... I will dump them at sea or bury them in my backyard... Problem solved  ::)  lol....
