Vinyl wrapped battery?
« on: April 22, 2014, 07:01:21 AM »

I took time to remove most all of the vinyl graphics on Turbo last Sunday and it got me thinking I might want to put more on but I rather cover the whole battery if I could.

Is this a bad idea ?

Probably it'll slightly increase the battery thermal insulation. Good when it's cold, not so good when it's warm. But probably only a very small increase.

Vinyl wraps are only something like 0.3mm thick even for the very heavy duty stuff.  Most is thinner so I cant imagine it having any significant impact on cooling.

Maybe you could get a vinyl wrap with fake cooling fins on it, sort of like what some IC V-twin cruiser manufacturers do with their water-cooled engines to make them look like they are air-cooled.   ;)

I'd imagine if you put white vinyl on it or a light colored one it would have less of an impact in direct sun temperature wise than the black metal help keep the housing cooler but then you also have the internal temp but I can't imagine it causing enough thermal insulation to make any difference. Lol ^^^ fins lol
