Progress or lack thereof for the recalls. Anyone still waiting
« on: February 18, 2014, 12:55:30 AM »

I am still waiting for my recall to be processed for a new Zero. I haven't even seen the bike yet, it's still stuck at the dealer in Paris. They are waiting for the tools to do the recall. I've noticed others are in the same situation.

So, how many are still waiting, and why are you waiting???

(ps I have a funny feeling that the majority will be outside the USA).

I live in Texas and am waiting for my dealer to get the necessary cabling to make the connections. I received my recall notice in January.

I had my SW update 2012DS last Saturday and my 2013FX will be next if I get the papers to license it.

My dealer got all adapters and instructions for 2012-13. (Germany not so far away)

My dealer is still waiting on the right tooling to arrive from Zero here in Idaho, USA so you are not alone.

I spoke to a Zero employee about three weeks ago and he told me that the cables were in short supply.  The factory only had one cable at the time and it had been flown to Mexico, along with one of their technicians, to fix the firmware on the bikes that were sold there.   ???

Looks like this is a problem network wide, in all countries. And it seems to have caught Zero unprepared. I'm now wondering how long this is going to take. Maybe time to talk to Zero.

I've had my update performed with a regular service checkup and they thankfully scheduled it to minimize shop time. I find it helps to emphasize to dealers that this is a regular commuter, not a secondary joy ride.

True, problem for me is I haven't gotten the bike yet  ::)

The dealers also seem not to have the tools yet to do their job, which is why my bike is still collecting dust for 2 months at the dealer, and it's too far to pick it up, since it's outside the range of the DS. If not I would have taken it in and ride it around until the tools arrive.

Seems kind of odd to issue the recall and not be prepared to implement it.  Especially for lack of cables which are generally pretty quick to manufacture.

I imagine that a recall is issued once the company is aware of the problem and need to communicate to customers their risk exposure for legal reasons. The risk on this one seems relatively low or at least can be handled on a non-urgent schedule, as well. If your bike is stuck at a far away dealer, that seems out of proportion but mostly about inconvenient logistics. Personally, I would try to get the bike from them. Unless the bike as tested demonstrated the issue, it probably won't manifest while you ride it regularly until the dealer can sort it out.

I have just heard from my Zero dealer in Germany, near a city called Stuhr in the area Bremen.
They are ready with the firmware update for my bike.

Nice !  ;D

Hope soon to be on my way to Germany, possible for me in about 14 days I think.

I called my local dealer about a week ago, and they said they'd check on it. I talked to them again yesterday, and Zero told them it would be 2 weeks or so before they could get the cable, etc. to them.

My local dealer got their cable in a few days ago.   My FX is in the shop today getting the recall performed.

I got a call that the equipment was in last week and they actually did the update. Now I need to wait for the paperwork (which they could have started earlier while I was waiting, but that meant someone had to put on his thinking hat). Hopefully in 10 days or so I'll see the DS in my garage.

Looks like cables and equipment are slowly arriving at all dealers. Time for Zero to start contemplating over the air updates...
