Partial charging time
« on: September 01, 2013, 07:49:37 PM »

Just wondering, before purchasing the S (I'm almost decided, but I may wait for 2014), how much % can you get per 30 minutes for normal 110V charging? Per hour? That is because I'm pretty tight in range for a few destinations that I would like to reach with the moto. I'm looking for the 11.4.

It's pretty linear. If it takes 6 hours for a full charge from empty with my 8.5 battery, you can regain half of that in 3 hours, in other words regain half of the bars or 6 bars in 3 hours. Both size batteries have 11 bars and one hidden bar for a total of 12 bar, and each half hour of charge regains 1 bar on the gauge. The big battery charging time from empty to full is just under 8 hours, so you would gain slightly over 1.5 bars for every hour of charging with 110.

How far do you need to go and which type of riding is it? Fast highway or city?

You could always carry an extra charger if needed.

130 km for both, one destination is on highway all the way the other is mixed highway - road. I would need to go there at 80 km/h max.

That should be no problem for either model S.  My 9 kWh 2012 S will travel at least 160 km if I don't exceed 80 km/h.

130 km at 80 km/h is no problem under normal conditions. Yesterday I had very strong side- and headwind with passenger and topbox with my S 2013 11.4 and did not make 130 km at 70-80 km/h. Had to recharge underway. Go for a 2013 11.4 but consider some quick chargers or CHAdeMON depending on your options.

Standard = 9 h
Standard + 1 quick charger = 4,5 h
Standard + 2 quick chargers = 3 h
Standard + 3 quick chargers = 2,25 h

CHAdeMON = 1 h

Charger are not much available on the paths I will go through, only small towns are in the way. I'm in Quebec, they are installing chargers slowly but surely.

How is the Zero affected by hills - mountains? I live near a mountain and it's hilly for many kilometers around here.

I bring 2x quick chargers with me in a topbox.

Ask your dealer if you can make a testride!

It would be a week-end test drive, not sure he would accept easily.

Kensiko, I've only been in Quebec once, but I spent a great six days there rafting the wild Magpie River at flood stage! :o

You can also consider getting a 2.5kW fast charger from Harlan at Hollywood Electrics.  It costs more than the DeltaQ, but also gives you about 2.2kW per hour (actual).  You should be able to combine this with the onboard DeltaQ to get about 30mi/hr charging.

I really enjoy my new ultracompact compact  DIY 1h 6.6kW charger ;) I can charge on the actual charge stations that are growing in qty in Quebec these months.

You can contact Elcon company they make waterproof IP66 charger up to 6kW but you migt have to bolt it under your Zero frame if you have enough clearance

btw wich city are you located in Quebec province? i'm in quebec city
