Useful tools for electric riders
« on: July 17, 2013, 11:45:14 AM »

I thought these tools could be useful for other riders

   - How far can I go draws the map you can access with a given autonomy : http://www.freemaptools.com/how-far-can-i-travel.htm
If someone can tell me how to print a large map without the ads & text, that would be great

    - Chargemap.com gives you the list of the charging stations around you, or along a specific trip
     http://chargemap.com/

     - (Android App) Autolib for french users gives you the list of the charging stations, and the numbers of slots available. With a 30 €/year fixed fee, you can book a slot (and a parking place) and use it for free for a few hours

Hope it helps !

I've always thought a neat tool would be to use speed limit data - or better yet, live traffic data - combined with terrain data to estimate EV range (round trip and one-way). Unfortunately the Google Maps API does not expose speed limit data : |

I enjoy using Recargo/Plugshare to find the closest charging stations (www.recargo.com).

And Waze is very helpful as I avoid traffic jams and police actions along my commute (www.waze.com).

I have been experimenting with different apps to track my weekend rides.  Google offers My Tracks.

I guess I'm behind the times - I mount an actual GPS unit (Garmin) on my bike for trail riding and storing tracks. :D

Trikester : or you can use google maps navigation on your phone, with a bluetooth earplug so that you even don't have to look at a screen.
