Hello all, I have a deposit on a Zero S--but now I think I like the X model better. But, I am not a dirt bike rider--I want to use the Zero X on the street. (I realize the govt. tax rebate doesn't apply to the X also.) Who knows about making the X street legal? Are they (Zero)really making a light kit for it? (In my state it would need, headlight, taillight, brake light, horn, turn signals, and 2 mirrors.) Does anyone know of others adding these to their X to make it street legal? Are there other kits out there to make a dirt bike street legal? Thanks for your input.

Go with the S for sure, Did you get a waiting list # or anything? I hear the backlog is huge for the S. I just got a X one week ago and entered the 24 hour race with it. GOOD TIMES Thanks Zero, I'm going to be getting in line for the S as soon as I can. I need to get in soon with my S order as I want one of the hand built in the USA bikes. All the first few 100 or so bikes will be built in the USA. The current X frame comes from over sea's but it looks great.
The extra cost is well worth it for the S you can take on and off road with just a swap of the tires. I hear a new MX bike will also be out soon. I wonder if it will be based on the S frame?
As for the light kit from Zero I have not heard about it, But lots of after market makers of DOT light kits for bikes. For the X you need a 12volt batt pack or a 58 to 12volt step down.

Zero is coming out with a Dual Sport version of the S. Not sure when, but it will have the same frame, batts and motor as the S and also be street legal. Might be worth the wait. Also in about a months time they are coming out with another variation of the X. It will be the MX version with beefier components and will incorporate the use of a better fork designed by FOX.

thanks for all the replies. I am in line for an S--but don't have a number. I was told I'm about 65-70 inline. Still, would be nice to see what might be coming soon--don't want buyer's remorse this major purchase if the newer styles might be mroe to my liking.

Redheadjj, curious why you would want the X if you don't plan on offroading. Not that I am arguing against it. Just like to hear about what people want to do with these bikes. The X is very light and would be really fun for the city. The range is shorter than the X though. I added http://www.acerbis.com/p107_headlight/p107.html to my previous post. morati, thanks for the info about the DS version of the S. That would very much rock! picasso, cool to know about the made in the USA frames.

I'm more about fun and innovation. (I have a Pinzgauer-but I never take it off-roading.) I am surprised to see how much a lighting kit costs tho.' Didn't the dealer from CO say lighting kits were coming for the X? I'd like to see what the X looks like with a factory designed lighting kit. (It would be nice to have a speedometer too.)

Sounds good. I know a salesman told me over the phone people were wiring up kits. Can't remember if Zero would sell one for the X. How much do you feel is reasonable?

Now that's funny I also have a pinzgauer, 710k 1974.
For a DOT legal kit I wouldn't spend $+300 And for anything $+200 it better include a headlight. Zero has a 58 to 12volt converter on the Zero site, but Id just get a separate pack for the lights. You can also find the converter much cheaper on EV sites.
For a speedometer just get a 10 buck bike computer.

I did see they had a converter on the web site. I did think about a bike Speedo too--lots of options there. it is surprising I don't many after market kits options. I figured there would at least be a page or two of things in JC Whitmey or Dennis Kirk catalogs. Since the converter Zero sells is over $200--and kits look to be about $200-350, it does make the cost closer to a Zero S (Esp. when one factors in the tax credt at the end of the year--that the X doesn't qualify for. Wish we knew about the oher models they might come out with this year--if any.

I think that guy was at the race. Was one bike entered that had a road going plate. I think it was New Mexico.
I called and put money down on a Zero S, wasn't given a number yet. Told around June.

This is the Baja Designs kit it was made specific for the Zero X its plug and play. The taillight is LED with a built in license plate light. It looks totally factory.
