What if: TESLA would make E-motorcycles !

 ;)

Tesla are revolutionizing the car perrformances and are like creating new standard of performances with the MOdel S.. not only because it's electric but because of many other features.

Now i'.m wondering what a TESLA E-Motorcycle would look like about performances ;D

Who will propose that to Elon Musk?  8)

Elon is not going to mess with electric motorcycles any time soon.

A better question might be, "Who can take the Tesla approach to electric motorcycles and produce a bike with the power, range, handling and asthetics to make a better motorcycle, not just a better electric motorcycle?".

I wrote some stuff on the brammoforum recently on this topic.

IMO the recently announced Mission R promises to be the closest thing to a Tesla motorcycle.

* high price ($30k for 12 kWh .. probably $35k+ for 17 kWh)
* very high performance, without qualifications
* lust-worthy
* interesting software support (HUD-enabled helmet, MissionOS telemetry, navigation)
* high-powered AC charging (9 kW J1772 versus Brammo @ 3 kW, Zero @ 1.3 kW)

Mission Motorcycles is giving it a try - if you can afford the $60,000 buy-in.  That is the problem.  You can make some fantastic electric motorcycles (and there are some on the market right now) but how many can you sell at those prices and can you stay in business just selling a few bikes to people like Jay Leno?

If you want to sell a relatively large volume of electric motorcycles, you have to price them below $10K and then you have to cut build and component quality, performance and general specifications to meet that price range.  The EV market needs to increase substantially and I don't see that happening any time soon.  But you will know when it does happen - the major established motorcycle companies will jump in and then you will see performance increase and prices go down due to competition and volume production.  I figure that it will take more government regulation, higher gas prices and a new generation of riders that did not grow up riding IC motorcycles for this to happen.  I give it about 10 years - unless an oil crisis occurs first.

When the cost of lithium batteries drop 70% I bet you we see all kinds of new Electric bikes being developed! Plus I have heard rumors of some kind of new polymers that supposedly could double the range of our current batteries. I bet we see some more really cool bikes soon. As the current crop is already fun and that's half the battle.
