Minor starting "glitch"
« on: December 21, 2012, 05:29:57 AM »

I and possibly one other person, have experienced a minor glitch since the big controller firmware recall was performed.  Sometimes I have to turn the ignition on then off and back on again before the throttle will catch and the bike moves forward.  While I forgot to ask several questions yesterday when I was at the factory, I did manage to remember to ask about this minor problem.  I was told that about 1 in 40 bikes had this issue after the firmware fix and I just got unlucky.  I was told that it should not get worse and should never take more than an additional re-boot before the throttle will work.  So if you are one of those other 2 or 3 people who experience this issue on the 2012 model, that is the answer.

I've never seen this post-glitch, but after switching on and first applying throttle, the motor is rather rough for the first couple of feet. I'm assuming this is some type of calibration .. and it is new to the post-glitch firmware.

Perhaps I'm the "one other person".  I see the exact same thing Richard230 describes.  I have been trying to characterize conditions when it happens, but no real correlations yet.  Kind of annoying, but very easy workaround.
Thanks Richard230 for the update from the factory.  Did they mention any plans on eventually coming up with a fix?  Or is this too small and too few people for them to worry about?

No fix was mentioned.  I got the impression that the issue wasn't big enough to address.  They did say that it was a "known problem" and they don't expect it to get any worse.  As long as I don't plan to use my Zero for a bank robbery getaway vehicle, I should be OK.   ;)

I have once mentioned it in an other thread.

The SW has a different pre-charge algorithm that need more time.

Unfortunately it produce sometimes a pre-charge fault and you need to turn the key off and on again.

The dealers got the information with the update, I don't know why the didn't mention it.

I got the update not long ago and since weather is bad and all roads are full of salt and I never road my bike.

Will see if I have the "minor glitch" too.

I must be an 'other other' person who had this happen with several consecutive attempts and I was told that if it happened again that I should push the bike forward or back a wheel rotation which, I believe, is how I inadvertently got the bike started again.
