List of existing commands for the zero MBB and BMS

I just thought it could be helpfull to rassemble all command on a single thread.

These are the command you can type in a serial terminal communication software installed on your pc that can communicate  via the rs232 port. It can be done with a usb to RS-232 cable adaptor that you just  connect the rs232 pins TX and RX  to the MBB ( Main Bike Board) OBDII port or Battery BMS. You will need to connect 4 wires ( GND, 5V, TX and TX). i'll try to add images later

Here is the list of known command and what they do.

help: _________give you a list of commands
balance:_______to get the battery balance
dobalance:_____force the BMS resistors to burn energy off the highest voltage cells
calsincos: ____????? known to work  just for the sevcon and motoenergy brushless on the 2012
eventdumplog:___ seem to give some history about the event that are recorded in the MBB
h:_____________ menu pops up with all commands.

And here is some details about the data you get from the console:

Discharge level 065 Ah // pack capacity consumed
SOC: 46% // (55 Ah / 120 Ah = 45.8% SOC)
I: 0A // pack current, no present discharge
L:3424 // low bank millivolt
l:3424 // other millivolt? not sure what's going on here - you see it jump from 3.383 to 3.359 then 3.712 under moderate discharge. sometimes l is lower than L or higher than H.
H:3483 // high bank millivolt
B:059 //  H - L or the difference between the highest cell and lowest.    guessing "B" stands for "balance"
PT:031C // pack temp
BT:034C // BMS temp
PV:62373 // pack voltage in millivolt
M:Idle // bike mode

Average 16 is the average voltage of the mid 16 banks (excluding high, low). Average 18 is the average voltage of all banks.

Info from Terry:
CoolTerm software is a good platform but any serial terminal software will work. 
Set the baud rate to 38400.

-pin 5 as GND Confirmed
-pin 8 as RXD Confirmed
-Pin 9 as TXD a guess


I did not tried to transmit yet or to reprogram the MBB parameters.  So only the RXD and gnd was confirmed but according to the manual, the wire that is GRY/BLK is the Rx wire and the TX wire is Red/BLK and when i look at the corresponding pins on the OBDII connector the TX is look like pin 8 and RX is pin 9 and GND is pin 5
The RX and TX wires are twisted together.. this might be a clue..


Also something important is that the OBDII RX and TX signal are working at a level of 3.3V so some of the common USB-TTL converter that work with 5V will not work.

I found some interestings online document  presentation about their MBB that use Tera Term that seem to be the software that manage the zero use to manage communications ( or their software)

Probably any terminal emulator would work - but Tera Term works well enough.

I don't see rs232 on my xu..only small round connector...does this work for 2012?

ON all Zero S DS and XU you will find a OBDII connector and this connector have the TX RX signal that allow you to communicate with the MBB and a part of the BMS command.

if you search a bit on that forum you will find therest of  info you need ;)
