2012 Zero California EV Rebate
« on: February 08, 2012, 07:56:20 AM »

I just tried to apply for the California EV rebate program (the 2009-2011 Zeros are worth $900), but got rejected because Zero hasn't certified the 2012 models yet. However the staff person who sent me the message said that they were pretty good about getting their models approved and she expected they would follow through.  Until then she will keep my application.  I hope the rebate money lasts until then.   ;)

I submitted a *second* application there just now.  They specify '09-11 models but the "year" choice box goes to '12.

Email reply:[again] "Thank you for your application to the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project.

The California Center for Sustainable Energy will review your application and contact you within 3-5 business days.

If your application is accepted, you will receive an email with additional instructions on how to complete the application process."

Still awaiting instructions.  Just got my plate & reg yesterday!

I just received the following message from the California Center for Sustainable Energy:

A few minutes ago, we heard from the Air Resources Board that the 2012 Zero DS will be rebate-eligible!  We can start processing your application now, so you should be receiving an email from our system with more details on the supporting documents you will need to send in.  For your reference, we will need:

·         Signed application form by mail (attached)

·         Purchase agreement or lease

·         Copy of DMV vehicle registration

·         Proof of residence in the form of a cable bill, utility bill, or other vehicle registration

A following message said that they are setting aside $900 for my rebate request.

Here is something that you should be aware of.  When I read the "fine print" on my rebate I noticed that you are signing a contract verifying that you agree not to sell your EV for a period of 3 years.  If you do, you may have to return the rebate.  The rebaters will be watching your DMV vehicle ownership records each year to make sure that you still own the bike/car during that period.  So when you buy a Zero or Brammo, you are stuck with the bike for three years - while the latest, improved and exciting new models come out every year.  Something more to think about.

I just received my $900 check today, too. I guess they send them all out at the same time each month.

I was also notified that my dealer sent out my "pink slip" to me yesterday, so I will probably get it tomorrow.  (After all, it is a 10-mile trip via the US mail.) I wonder why the DMV sends the original title to the dealer and not to the registered owner?    ???  I did not have a lien on the title.
