Some background: The fastest I've gone on my Zero is 62 MPH. That was for a few seconds when the wind was right and I was going down from an overpass. Realistically, the top speed is about 55 MPH. But...
Tonight I raised the back wheel off the ground and twisted the throttle. The speedometer went up to 81 MPH and wouldn't go any higher.
Conclusion: The motor and voltage are both capable of exceeding 62 MPH. But there's not enough torque to overcome the weight of my carcass plus the wind resistance at that speed.
I don't want to overwork the motor by forcing more amps into it. That will overheat it and might burn it up. Instead, I want to change my gearing to get more torque and not make my motor grunt so hard.
My goal is to change the sprocket to get more acceleration and less top-speed. Has anybody changed either of their Zero's sprockets? Where did you get it? Is there a special size or do they all bolt up directly? Did you have to replace the belt, too?
I'd like to keep the quiet belt drive, but I'll go over to chain/sprockets if I have to.

Oh, one other question:
After changing the gearing, is there a way to re-calibrate the speedometer? Rather than simply getting the motorcycle's speed from the wheel, like every other motorcycle in the world does, it looks like the geniuses at Zero decided to get it from the motor.
