Good Morning and Happy New Year.
I decided to check my storage charge on my 2017 DSR since charging it to 60% before storage. Its been about 4 weeks now since it was parked. The temps have been in the 20-30s the last couple weeks. The last week had been teens to single digits. This morning was 5F. I turned the bike on and got the following readings. State of charge went up 3% and the temp sensor thinks the bike is 1202F when its 5 F outside. See the pics below. I did the screenshot of the weather. Few minutes after taking the picture of the dash. I am going to see if it will initiate a charge or not. From reading and the manual it shouldn’t because its so cold. I wont let it charge for more than a few seconds just to see.
Anybody else see this? Looks like the temp sensor isn’t calibrated togo that low. Or the programing doesn’t have the range so it defaults to that number. I have seen that with PLCs and sensors on equipment at work if they go out of the specified range.

Looks like you have some Global Warming in your motor. :o You need to send some of it to Washington, until Congress can return from their vacations and warm the place up again with hot air. ;)
Needless to say, I have no idea what is going on, but have a Happy New Year, anyway. ;D

You've got some big kahunas riding around in 5F weather!!! You are probably right that the sensor doesn't have a range that low. Since the battery won't charge below freezing anyway, sensing the motor temp to almost 30 degrees below freezing probably seemed incredibly unnecessary. Also even with it cold out, the motor will heat quick while riding so would get above the "out of range" area quickly.

I was out in 10F weather this morning on my way to work ... think next couple days it is going to be below 10. I should pull my logs to see what the bike was doing to see if it is different on 2013's :D
Oh and yeah ... when I get to work (30m @ 55mph) the battery will not charge ... it has to warm up a bit in the garage there before taking on a charge :/
I normally arrive with 50-55% SOC and hit the city with about 97vdc before slowing down to city speeds. I park around 7am and it is normally charged by 12pm :)

I haven’t been out riding since the beginning of December. Thats when it started getting a bit scary with the frozen dew on the roads and unseen black ice. I guess I could stud the tires and other things but I need to put some miles on my Forester. Winter is the best time for that. Right now the roads and highways look like the salt flats with all the treatment on them. So the bike will be parked until April or so. I just went to check the battery percentage to see if it dropped after being at the storage charge of 60%. So far that is holding fine after a month of cold weather. Just the temp sensor reading. I was riding between 15-20F before I put it away and the lowest reading I ever saw on the motor temp was 35f when I pulled the bike out of the garage. My garage is always a little warmer than outside. Once at work the garage I park it in is 60F. So at some point below 35F the readings default to 1201-1202F.
