Title: Color Swaps
Post by: calamarichris on December 14, 2017, 05:44:29 AM
Thanks to the Zero SR only having 3 non-black colored, pieces, it's remarkably easy to change the color of your bike and not that expensive.

Just got the following quote for the painted 2016 plastic, which will fit my 2018 SR with the charge tank:

Charge Tank Cover SR Red:   $233.75
Front Fender SR Red:           $46.75
Tail Upper SR Red:               $63.75

Admittedly, I might have gotten a nice discount on these, as I'm paying for them at the same time I'm paying for the whole bike, but I figure these will pay for themselves after my next bank job getaway this Spring.

Be fun to change them up as seasons or whim dictate, or maybe even mix it up to achieve that wonderful '98 R1 look.

AF1 Racing posted this on Zero Motorcycle Owners FB page.
Hoping more dealers also offer this. Great customer service AF1 Racing the limited color choice was a major complaint of the 2018 model offering especially for the SR.

"Zero Motorcycles typically only come in one std color for each model. Each variation is one color. AF1 Racing has decided to offer free body work swaps to any of the other available colors on all new 2018 Zero orders. Now you can get the model you want, in the color you want. S/SR/DS/DSR color options: Yellow, Red, Orange, White, Black, Silicon Silver Metallic, Pearlescent Sierra White, & Sequoia Green Matte FX/FXS color options: white or black. Contact us for more info."

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought the 2018 color choices were BORING.

The tail is actually TWO pieces, unless you chose to not select the bottom.
Also, the 2016 bikes were not painted. I know that going forward Zero has
chosen NOT to sell unpainted bodywork. Not sure if that applies to older
models. The 2016 had the pouch instead of the locking top. I ordered a
2017 Painted DSR "tank" for my 2016 SR. Had not decided exactly what
I wanted to do. Installed the new "Tank" and decided that I LOVE the
Two Tone, so didn't do anything else. If you decide to go with the pouch
you will probably also want to order the lock for the pouch. I had to remove
mine for the 2017 "tank" to fit

Jeff, the salesguy at the dealership said that the unpainted red fairings were subject to fading and didn't look as nice.

Asterisk! Turns out the charge tank plastic is not easily swappable as the fenders are. Apparently it's integrated with the charging hardware. So no color swaps if you have a charge tank. Ah well, white's nice. I always get a kick out of watching texting motorists throw their cellphones to their passenger seats when I filter up to the front at stoplights on my F800GT.

Also learned (from Zero's salesguy on their website, not from my dealership salesman) that my bike won't be hitting the dealership floor until the first or second week of January. Alas.

Can you post a pic? I saw the DSR gray/black at the dealer and liked it, now I'm just deciding if i should have my SR plastics painted black or to go with the DSR 2-tone

Change #2!  Just learned from dealership salesman that the tank is indeed switchable, and I should be able to do it at home without too much trouble.

Will provide full report and photos when my bike arrives on the first or second week of January.

Very nice, I might just go this route. As for the tail, I might just wrap the bottom piece with vinyl, easier than trying to remove it. My tail can barely be seen anyway with top and side cases and an oversize custom seat.

I wanted to change the color of my ‘15 FX. Front/rear and left/ right side panels and logos from AF1 Racing, Acerbis Supermoto front fender in white, fork guards and fly screen painted with Rust Oleum 2x semi gloss white. Fender requires some 1/4” nylon spacers and longer button head bolts and washers from the hardware store. I’m pleased with the results.

I was pleased but the parts I painted had a little too much gleam. I repainted them with Rust Oleum Flat White. It matches the molded white panels exactly. It looks so good I painted the stock front fender and the rear hugger.

Along the line of swaps, I'd like to swap the floppy front OEM fender on my 2017 DS with an oem S fender. Apparently it can be done, even though the front wheel sizes are different. So my question is, how does one go about acquiring a stock front fender from an S?

(should this be its own new thread?)

I want to change my 2015 form white to Orange so if anybody is looking to swap the other way I have white plastics.
My local dealer quoted me $800!!!!!!!! LOL. I scored an Orange tail section off Ebay for $80. HAH.
